Children with ADHD experience a boost of confidence at these camps. Many camps approach ADHD from a strengths-based and neurodiversity-informed perspective, helping children understand and work with their unique learning styles. Kids and teens gain self-awareness as they participate in a variety of traditional camp activities, including arts and crafts, science experiments, nature walks, and music performances. Activities give kids a sense of accomplishment combined with fun.
Camp counsellors and instructors create fun, supportive, and safe environments for children to improve their social, behavioural, and cognitive skills. A growing number of camps focus on improving children’s cognitive skills specifically. Through interactive games and assignments, children acquire faster processing and improve their comprehension, reasoning, and retention skills. ADHD camps also enhance children’s social skills, as children are always surrounded by peers and instructors. Children practice initiating conversations, asking questions, and providing appropriate responses to their peers’ comments and questions.
Camp leaders immerse children in common, everyday activities that teach children how to work alongside their ADHD. Team building activities, independent work, and lessons in empowerment raise children’s self-esteem.ADHD support camps are a chance for children to gain independence and get structured support away from home.
Academic ADHD camps are available as well, where children complete math, science, or writing activities. Prices for ADHD camps depend primarily on duration, setting, and level of support. Shorter day programs or week-long specialty sessions may range from $100 to $500. Longer residential or adventure-based camps with extended supervision and accommodations often begin around $1,000 and can increase from there. All programs are coeducational, and camps recognize that ADHD can present differently across children.
ADHD camps offer social, academic, and emotional benefits beyond traditional summer fun. These structured environments are designed to help kids build confidence, develop skills, and feel understood. Key benefits include:
Ask about staff training in ADHD, staff-to-camper ratios, behaviour support strategies, and whether individualised plans are available. Reputable camps will walk you through their intake process and explain how they adapt programming for different attention, impulsivity, or executive functioning needs.
Many camps have clear medication policies and trained staff who supervise or administer medication according to medical instructions. Confirm how medication is stored, who administers it, and how communication works between camp staff and parents.
Therapeutic camps often incorporate structured support strategies, counselling, or executive functioning skill development into daily programming. Recreational support camps may offer accommodations and understanding staff, but focus more heavily on traditional camp activities. Clarify the level of clinical support offered before registering.
Review the daily schedule together, discuss expectations, and communicate openly with camp staff about routines, triggers, and calming strategies. If possible, start with shorter sessions before committing to a longer program.
Ask how staff respond to impulsivity, emotional regulation challenges, or peer conflict. Look for positive reinforcement systems, structured routines, and consistent communication rather than punitive approaches.
