There is value in any kids' activity, and dance is healthy, happy, joyful way of staying active. If your child loves dance more than sports, then it's great to encourage them in this area! There are even toddler dance classes teaching a variety of dance types to kids as young as two or less. It's important for parents to follow through on their children's enthusiasms and use this as a means to get kids vigorous.
You'll find, above, a number of overnight dance camps. There's no better way to expand girls' and boys' passion and abilities. If your child excels at dance, acrobatic movement, and he or she loves performance and wants to deepen their skills and expand their repertoire. The immersion offered by an overnight kids' camp is second to none. Here, they'll make friends with other girls and boys who share their passion, and get instruction and choreography, often from professionals in the field. Day camps from throughout Toronto and other major cities also offer a focus on dance for kids.
Within the broader world, there are also camps or after school programs that focus on specialized types of dancing. We offer more information about programs such as the following:
Hip hop dance programs appeal to kids as young as three years old who love the urban rhythms and want to get better at "freestylin' to new beats." Breakdancing camps are closely related but of course, focused more on old school b-boy moves that are uniquely acrobatic. Urban dance continues to grow in popularity, and there are many kids' dance programs that respond accordingly, with camps and classes taught by experienced performers.
Jazz dance lessons offer instruction in this somewhat traditional form of dance. This traditional form of dance can also foster an appreciation for this now-traditional form of music. Some specific terms kids will learn include the bounce, dolphin, hip walk, jazz split, and jazz square. These lessons will enrich your child's cultural understanding. Of course, jazz may be taught as part of the curriculum at any dance summer camp. This is a great way to encourage children to acquire an interest in this sophisticated form of music and the fascinating culture related to it.
Ballet dance lessons and ballroom dance are two other traditional dance programs for kids that parents (or even grandparents) love to encourage. These older forms of dance can expand children's and teens' interest in dance forms that are perhaps waning in popularity. These have much of value for kids and teens interested in all aspects of the world of dancing.
