When you think about summer and the water, a sense of freedom harkening back to times when there was a more idyllic pace of life comes to mind. Small Waves, Strong Minds, offers just that for campers ages 7-17. Located on Lake Ontario at Sunnyside Beach, our day camp is a multi-paddle sport camp that includes opportunities for kayaking, outrigger canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, and dragon boat. Campers develop technical paddling skills, improve fitness, and are encouraged to explore their curiousity and inquisitiveness in STEM activities and outdoor play.
We offer a unique camp experience with the lowest coach to camper ratio of all paddling camps in Toronto and a blend of semi-structured outdoor play with a philosophy of inquiry-based learning embedded into our programming. We offer one-one specialized support to campers based on their needs and skill development.

Sunnyside Paddling Club’s summer programs grow kids' strength and confidence on the waters of Lake Ontario. Paddling programs emphasize a safe, developmental approach, with guidance from Canoe Kayak Canada’s long-term athlete development model, and a 1:6 coach-to-participant ratio that keeps everyone engaged. Strong Waves Strong Minds youth camps introduce kids aged 7 to 17 to a broad mix of paddling disciplines, including kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, outrigger canoes, and dragon boat racing.
The Club stresses play-based learning over a competitive mentality. Programs build confidence, independence, and an appreciation for the unique teamwork you can only experience paddling. The Dragon Boat program is also a one-of-a-kind integration of fitness with literacy and hands-on physics, engineering, and design. On-the-water instruction is combined with dryland fitness and daily STEM activities. This one-week program welcomes all skill levels and ages. Sunnyside camps give kids from across Toronto an ideal entry point into advanced paddling and watersports, that's uniquely community-oriented, well-established, and trusted.
All programming and lessons are created by certified Canoe Kayak Canada coaches and OCT certified teachers. All staff are returning staff this year, are First-Aid CPR trained, and all have backgrounds in lifeguarding, competitive sprint paddling, dragon boat, swimming, and rowing; and combine their love for the water, children, and the outdoors with their expertise in paddling sports. Our program coordinator is fully bilingual in English and French. Other languages spoken by staff include Vietnamese, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
