The Our Kids review of Stanley Park Ecology

    our take

Stanley Park Ecology offers kids something increasingly rare: the chance to slow down, look closely, and discover the natural world in one of Canada’s most iconic urban parks. The setting is, of course, a major part of the draw. Stanley Park becomes the classroom, with forests, wetlands, beaches, rocky shorelines, wildlife habitats, and trails giving campers a living, breathing place to explore. Rather than simply spending time outdoors, children are invited to notice what’s around them—beaver lodges, bat houses, wetland creatures, shore life, birds, plants, and the many small clues that help tell the story of an ecosystem.

The strength of the program is in how accessible and engaging it makes ecology feel. Activities are hands-on, active, and curiosity-led, blending trail exploration, beach discovery, games, creative activities, and indoor breaks into a camp day that feels both adventurous and grounded. For children who are naturally drawn to animals, plants, science, or outdoor exploration, it’s an easy fit. But it’s also a strong choice for kids who simply benefit from open-ended discovery, fresh air, and a camp environment that encourages observation, questions, and connection.

Parents will appreciate that the program is led by experienced educators with a clear focus on safety, inclusion, and respect for the park’s sensitive habitats. The camp doesn’t treat nature as a backdrop, but as the heart of the experience. Children come away not only with summer memories, but with a deeper understanding of the living world around them and their own place within it. For Vancouver families looking for a meaningful outdoor day camp, Stanley Park Ecology offers a thoughtful, place-based experience that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

    Safety, well-being, and individuality

I truly wanted to express my gratitude towards you and all the staff/volunteers who made [my children’s] time with you so memorable and fun. They always love being in the park that we’re so fortunate to live by and play in, but both shared that they really enjoyed interacting and spending time with all the staff and volunteers. I as a mom was grateful to know that they were spending their days in a camp that valued their safety, well-being, and individuality and so fostering of learning and having fun in an amazing environment. Thank you all ... Show More

    Best part of my year

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to volunteer as an EcoRanger at Stanley Park this summer. I learned a lot more about the work that SPE does, BC’s ecosystems, and had the awesome chance to meet new friends and interact with the public on a regular basis and share my knowledge and passion. Volunteering with SPE was really the best part of my year ... Show More
