Here's what makes Moorelands Kids Camps stand out

Founded in 1917, Moorelands Camp is an innovative children’s program that empowers children and youth to succeed at home, at school, and in their communities. Our camp programs are designed to promote growth, personal leadership, and character, enabling children and youth to strengthen their emotional and social well-being. We are able to do this through our intentional, traditional camp activities such as canoeing, swimming lessons, arts and crafts, archery, climbing and many others! We serve a diverse population and offer a variety of High School programs in addition to our overnight program. All spaces qualify for financial assistance at Moorelands. Enjoy an overnight experience for a Day Camp cost!

Moorelands Camp programs are rooted in the principles of Positive Youth Development (PYD), an intentional approach that recognizes and builds upon young people’s strengths promoting positive outcomes. Our leadership curriculum, known as the Moorelands’ Habits and Qualities (HQs), is woven into everything we do and help participants develop as the leaders of tomorrow. It is a unique leadership curriculum that allows participants to learn, practise and apply valuable life and leadership skills. We set the stage for kids as young as six to become leaders–first of themselves and then in their communities.

The Our Kids review of Moorelands Kids Camps

    our take

Moorelands Kids Camp’s tradition of empowering kids goes back more than a century. Today, it has a remarkable focus on opening up the classic overnight camp experience to urban kids. It offers a subsidized overnight program, ideal for kids aged 7-14. Many parents also appreciate the camp’s sliding-scale fees and financial assistance, making it accessible to children from different backgrounds. This helps create a diverse mix of campers in the beautifully natural setting, on Kawagama Lake.
The location, essentially an island, gives kids a clean break from everyday life, where they immerse themselves in the natural setting, explore, connect, and grow. When they unplug from screens and settle into cabin life, great friendships form quickly. Positive social development is at the core of Moorelands Camp’s programming, emphasizing boosting self-esteem, building friendships, and strengthening communication skills. The apex of programming here is their leadership programs. LEDGE and STEP challenge teens through outdoor skills development, canoe trips, and personal reflection. Participants learn about their strengths and weaknesses, and gain experiences that can translate to leadership roles throughout the rest of their lives.

  • Meet the Staff

    Staff and Counsellors

Staff at Moorelands Camp are positive, enthusiastic team players, who put the needs of others before their own. All staff have first aid training and also receive camp mental health training certification. In addition, they attend a rigorous orientation that includes training in behaviour intervention, positive youth development and specific activity qualifications. We have an overall ration of 1 staff for every 2 participants and in our campers have a maximum ration of 1 staff for every 5 participants. Staff are also certified in the Crisis Prevention Institutes' verbal de-escalation and non-violent intervention techniques.
