Children gain and build confidence in their academic skills at tutoring centres. These programs provide beginner to advanced instruction in mathematics, physics, biology, writing, history, and foreign languages, among other subjects. High school course credits are offered in summer tutoring programs as well, allowing students to remain intellectually stimulated and persist with their studies throughout the year. Through instruction, exercises, assignments, and homework help, children can also improve their reading, writing, and math, among other skills.
Some specialized programs prepare students for exams and admission tests like the SATs and SSATs. There are tutoring programs listed on this page that support struggling, gifted, and high-performing students. Most tutoring programs are divided based on students’ age and grade level. During private sessions, a child matches with an instructor that tailors the curriculum to his or her needs, while, in group settings, student-to-teacher ratios are lower so personalized learning is still a major focus.
Advanced tutoring programs help students gain knowledge and skills and apply what they learn in different contexts. This is done through practice outside of class time, and teachers expect students to stay focused and dedicated to their own intellectual development. This helps kids learn to work and solve problems independently.
Advanced programs also teach kids test-taking skills. Test anxiety can interfere with students’ academic performance, which is why teachers provide kids with skills and techniques to reduce their anxiety prior to and during tests. Learning when to guess or skip questions or how to structure short or long written answers are also taught in this instance.
Tutoring centres offer more than academic support. Here’s a list of benefits your child may receive from a tutoring program:
