What kinds of camps are there in Welland?

The variety of camps in Welland includes sports camps and education camps. STEM camps are increasingly popular everywhere as they are in The Niagara Region. Most families focus on summer day camps but it’s important to consider the unique value of overnight camps

    What do camps cost?

Camps in Welland start around $200-$240 per week per child for day-long summer camps. Specialized camps like some education or technology camps start higher, at $450 for a camp like a coding camp.

How do I find the best camp for my child?

Here are three steps to take:

    1. Discuss with your child what kind of camp would really interest them. Listen to them and acknowledge their wishes but also think about what areas they need to grow in and what kind of camp would help them do so.

    2. Consider practical matters like proximity to your home or work, of course, as well as the cost, then create a shortlist  /my-shortlist/.

    3. From there, reach out to camps, but when you do, make sure you ask the right questions. Here’s a starter list:

    • Ask what a typical day looks like. How much do they focus on activities your child is looking for? Can they give you a sample schedule?
    • Ask about counsellors’ training.  Do leaders have First Aid training? Are they trained under the ASAP Camp Safety Program? What training do they have in dealing with bullying or other discipline issues? Do they all have vulnerability sector checks?
    • Ask about the camp goals. Is there a final takeaway from camp?
    • Ask about session groupings.  Are campers grouped by age range?
    • Ask about before and aftercare.  What is the earliest you can drop kids off in the morning?  The latest you can pick them up?  Consider how your schedule fits.
