Performing arts programs give kids and teens experience in singing, acting, and dance, on stage. Above, we list both private and group lessons. Private lessons give young performers in-depth, personalized feedback from teachers. Acting is a main focus of programs, with kids and teens learning skills like characterization, voicing, etc. They also switch between various acting types (voice acting, musical theatre, ensemble performances, etc.) throughout class.
Dance and vocal activities accompany this acting training in some classes above. Your child learns to perform in dance genres like jazz, hip hop, or acro, while vocal lessons train young singers to hit the notes and project their voice in the theatre. Competitive performing arts classes are suited best for aspiring actors, while recreational programs focus on the fun of performance. Prices for these programs begin at $70, while more advanced programs may cost over $1,000.
In research, you’ll find a divide between acting-forward programs and dance-forward programs. Both are affordable, fun options. Dance classes often cover genres like tap, contemporary, and jazz. Acting-forward classes focus on children’s ability to create characters in dramatic, comedic, or contemporary roles. Musical theatre classes combine both performance styles. Private lessons hone your child’s individual skills, while camps offer kids and teens opportunities to collaborate.
Performing arts programs develop you into a triple threat, but also offer other benefits you can take into other areas of life. Consider the following:
