What does your child learn at First Aid camps?

Training in Standard First Aid,  Bronze Medallion, and Bronze Cross is available. In First Aid courses, your child trains with professional medical and injury care equipment such as medical masks, gauze, and First Aid kits. These courses teach children how to conduct injury recognition, prevention, and care for adults, toddlers, and babies. This certification is an asset for kids and teens interested in childcare, and medical science jobs.

Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross training are water safety courses. At camps with this training, kids and teens work in and out of the water to identify potential hazards. Working with manikins, kids and teens are tested on their endurance and ability to perform quick, yet safe, rescues. Often, these rescues are done as a team or with a partner. Individual rescues and an official lifeguard certification comes with further training. In these camps, kids are tested on their knowledge, skills, judgement and fitness levels. First Aid training is a prerequisite for both certifications.

Some courses combine both First Aid and water safety training into a single camp curriculum. For example, some programs in our list include Standard First Aid, Bronze Medallion, and Bronze Cross training at one camp. All advanced life saving camps teach kids and teens the proper methods of approaching and consoling an injured victim in order to reduce repercussions of trauma or stress. In turn, children learn how to give back and become more empathetic.

Leadership qualities are gained through both First Aid and Bronze level certifications, as kids and teens become active problem solvers that can make sound decisions in emergency situations. Your child also learns how to instruct and guide their peers to preserve their safety. Lifeguard and First Aid training begins at 13 years old. Prices for these camps begin at $80, though more intensive training rises over $1,000.

Why go to First Aid camps?

First Aid camps teach children skills that open new opportunities for them. Here are some things your child might find at their camp:

    • Fitness levels increase as a result of endurance training in water safety camps. Part of the curriculum in Bronze level training challenges how kids and teens perform in the water. Your child will find themselves swimming long distances and treading water for long periods of time. With this, kids strengthen their full body and increase their fitness levels.
    • Future pathways secured. For kids and teens wishing to pursue medical science, social work, or childcare as their full-time career, First Aid camp is a great way to gain all foundational lifesaving skills.
    • Make new friends. Most First Aid camps span a few weeks. At this time, kids and teens work with the same group of students and create new friendships with them.
    • Academic benefits. As kids mature and develop leadership skills during camp, they will notice improvements in their academic performance. These skills help kids learn better, as they pay attention more, stay on top of homework, and create stronger relationships with their teachers.
