Cartooning camp unleashes your child’s inner artist, as seasoned instructors introduce kids to the fundamentals of visual arts. Beginner cartoonists as young as 6 years old learn basic cartooning skills like colour, lighting, and proportion. As children sharpen and develop skills, they have the opportunity to create more detailed drawings. As you’ll see, camps include cartooning amongst other activities as broad as visual art instruction or camps focused on drawing or painting.
Various genres are explored in class such as comic drawing, manga, and anime, broadening children’s cartooning range. Often, children take their creations home to show off skills to family and friends.
Originality is the core of cartooning camp, as children conjure original characters and worlds through a diverse set of projects. For convenience, some camps are offered virtually on platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet. Cartooning camps charge per lesson or for the entire duration of camp. In the former, camps begin at $30 per lesson, while the latter starts at $300. All programs are coeducational.
Advanced cartooning camps include instruction in visual storytelling. Using their aesthetic intelligence, children capture emotion and tension within their characters, settings, and plotlines. This allows them to construct vivid narratives. Careers in animation, cartooning, or even video game design require fluency in visual storytelling techniques.
Experimentation is also a unique trait of advanced cartooning camps. Children transition between genres, cartooning styles, and themes in their cartoon creations, which helps them find where they excel in the visual arts. This also helps children free their imaginations and achieve self-expression through their work. Sort through each list above to find a cartooning camp worth investing in!
As children complete projects and unleash their creativity, they build a unique set of skills. Here are some things children can expect in cartooning camp:
Improvements in academic performance. Skills learned through cartooning such as flexibility, organization, and problem-solving transfer to students’ work habits in other areas. Subjects like math or science benefit from these skills.
