Kids’ cooking classes have one goal: to inspire a passion for food in students. To do so, children prepare various breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals. Children also explore different cuisines of the world by preparing dishes from countries around the world. Kids learn basic cooking skills including how to read a recipe, how to use utensils properly, as well as different cutting and cooking techniques.
Kitchen safety is one of the first lessons in culinary classes, as kids frequently work with sharp tools and hot appliances. Fortunately, trained chefs teaching courses listed above will educate children on safe cooking practices and supervise all lessons, to reduce risk of injury.
While programs focus on teaching young children cooking basics, there are also advanced, preparatory courses for high school students. In all classes, children learn about nutrition and healthy eating by sourcing fresh ingredients and making healthy substitutions as they cook. Prices for cooking programs vary. At one end of the spectrum, classes cost $150 to $200, while more intensive courses ideal for aspiring chefs and culinary artists sit above $1,000.
Aspiring chefs have a choice between general cooking classes and academic cooking classes. General cooking classes are less intensive. However, children learn all beginner skills necessary to get them started on a career in the culinary arts.
Academic culinary classes prepare high school students for admission into culinary schools. In these classes, teens learn advanced culinary skills and how to prepare professional dishes and entrees. Kitchen hygiene is emphasized more in these classes as well, as kids prepare themselves to break into the culinary business. In fact, business activities such as menu planning, recipe testing, and creating restaurant proposals are often integrated into these classes.
Kids discover a new form of creative expression through the culinary arts. Here are some things these programs offer:
