What happens in STEAM programs?

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Programs focus on a curriculum that bridges gaps between the arts and those practical disciplines. The business world sees an increasing need for students with more balanced interests. STEAM curricula engage children in art, design, science, and technology. Popular program topics include woodworking, electricity, architecture, programming, and even geography and space. Children conduct research, create designs, and build practically oriented projects.

For the most part, STEAM programs on camps.ca integrate its disciplines, but you’ll also find programs with more specialised curriculums. If children wish to enhance their skills in a specific area, there are programs focused on coding, robotics, or engineering. You can also find tutoring in subjects such as writing, math, or science.

STEAM programs are found across grade levels, including complex instruction and activities in higher levels. Curricula is often co-educational; however, a few programs are targeted directly to young girls. Prices start as low as $20, though, in some cases, programs are entirely free! More costly options offer professional-level instruction in all STEAM disciplines, range between $100 and $450.

About advanced STEAM programs

Advanced STEAM programs often require some prerequisite knowledge or coursework. Kids learn about scientific and mathematical subjects integrated with 2D or 3D design and aesthetics. Programs will focus on a major project.

These programs unify soft skills like critical thinking, decision making, or problem solving, with hard skills, which are more analytical, mathematical, and scientific. STEAM programs prepare kids and teens for work in the fields of technology and science, equipping them with increased creativity and flexibility.

Why enroll in a STEAM after-school program?

Thanks to its training across disciplines, children find an area where they truly excel in STEAM programs. Take a look at more advantages kids gain in these programs:

  • Children improve academically as they gain confidence in their math, science, and art skills. Among all camp and program choices, this is remarkably transferable to school.
  • Project development gives programs structure. Kids set goals and see how steps take them closer to completion. They learn goal setting, organization, time management, and other skills, as they progress through stages to complete a final, physical project.
  • Children find a niche as they explore the STEAM disciplines. They get a better idea of what future career to pursue and where they will fit.
  • Experiential learning. Visual and experiential learners benefit from STEAM programs since projects are hands-on. It develops open-minded, quick-thinking individuals.
