Stand Up and Speak's Teen Half-Day Summer Camp is designed for students aged 13 and older who want to become more confident, articulate, and effective communicators. Over five mornings, students complete 15 hours of interactive public speaking and leadership training in a supportive environment that encourages them to participate, take appropriate risks, and discover their own speaking style.

Each day combines instruction, group discussion, practical exercises, and opportunities to speak in front of others. Students develop skills in impromptu speaking, speech and essay writing, debating, TED-style presentations, interview preparation, video evaluation, and leadership communication. They also participate in mock debates, collaborative activities, and both prepared and spontaneous presentations.

A typical morning includes a warm-up speaking activity, focused instruction on a communication skill, guided practice, and individual or group presentations. Teachers provide constructive feedback to help students improve their organization, delivery, body language, vocal variety, and ability to think clearly under pressure. Video evaluations may also help students see their progress and identify specific areas for improvement.

What makes this camp different is the amount of active speaking practice students receive. Rather than simply learning communication theory, participants speak every day, apply new techniques immediately, and build confidence through repetition and encouragement. The program is engaging and appropriately challenging, with experienced instructors who foster a positive atmosphere in which teens feel respected and supported.

By the end of the week, students will have greater confidence in presenting their ideas, responding to unexpected questions, participating in discussions, preparing speeches, handling interviews, and communicating as emerging leaders. These are practical skills that can support success in school, extracurricular activities, future employment, and everyday life.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Self-regulation: Children learn to manage nerves, follow structure, and stay focused during speaking activities. Guided turn-taking and feedback help build emotional control and thoughtful communication.
  • Courage: Speaking in front of peers builds bravery. Through encouragement and gradual challenges, children learn to share ideas, take risks, and speak with growing confidence.
