Who are you as an organization?
Kaleidoscope offers a unique small-studio approach to Irish dance. We provide classes for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. We offer caregiver and child programs to introduce families to the rhythms of Irish dance. We offer the Reel Kids Irish Dance for children ages 3-6 that focus on movement concepts. Our core Irish dance program for ages 7-18 is based on the CRN curriculum. Adult programs focus on old-style Irish steps. We also offer adaptive Irish dance for people with special needs. You do not have to be of Irish descent to be interested in Irish dance. Classes take a holistic approach and are enriched with historical, cultural, and wellness material. We are proud to share the tradition of Irish dance in Kitchener-Waterloo.
What do you do differently or uniquely well?
"Dancers at Kaleidoscope love coming to class. They come through the door excited about what they will learn and do each day. To the extent that little ones have been known to cry when illness prevents them from coming to class. Or expressing disappointment that camp was only one day instead of an entire week.
We celebrate all dancers and empower them as they learn and grow. We embrace the exuberance of being a beginner and delight in each learning milestone.
We take pride in being up front with what we offer and the cost of our programs - there are no hidden fees or later add-ons."
Who are your staff and counsellors?
"Our Founder and Artistic Director has 20+ years of experience as an educator, a lifetime of dance experience, and an unmatched level of training, including graduate level education in Student Development and Irish Dance, as well as PhD. in history, as well as numerous movement and dance certifications.
We have a staff to camper/student ration of 1:10. We want each participant to feel connected with staff and keep this ratio deliberately low."
What do families need to know about registration?
"We begin accepting applications in mid-February and spots are limited. While our program is open to everyone, our low staff to camper ration dictates that spaces are limited.
All applicants first come/first served and are accepted until a camp roster is full.
Sign up is completed via our website - all required elements are outlined on that form.

Everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but also at Kaleidoscope Irish Dance and Movement Studio. Learning traditional Irish dance in a small-studio setting, there is truly a class for everyone. Young kids start with movement, older kids learn the core Irish program, adults focus on the old-style. There is even an adaptive Irish dance class for those with special needs. Their three core tenets are accessibility, acceptances and authenticity. Empowering new dancers means their love of dance is heightened and they feel confident in their abilities, while also being challenged. There are plenty of opportunities for leadership, as senior kids can mentor newer ones. The Irish culture is ingrained in the learning at Kaleidoscope and camps include various crafts, food, and activities related to Ireland. Founder Marjorie Hopkins is an Irish-trained dancer who is well-known for how fun she is, but also how she pushes kids to give it their all.

Dear Families
I am so glad to welcome you to Kaleidoscope Irish Dance & Movement Studio.
We’re on a mission to help people in our community dance for a lifetime. We operate under 3 principles:
We offer traditional Irish dance lessons for all ages and abilities, Irish dance-based fitness classes, and specialized movement programs for children. At Kaleidoscope, our motto is “dance for a lifetime.” We believe everyone can express themselves through movement in a way that is fun and fulfilling for them.
All of our instruction is designed to empower new dancers, returning dancers, and never-have-I-ever-tried-this dancers so that they can flourish. Classes take a holistic approach and are enriched with historical, cultural, and wellness material, because dance is more than just movement. It is an opportunity to engage with the world.
Kaleidoscope Irish Dance and Movement is proud to share the tradition of Irish dance in Kitchener-Waterloo. You do not have to be of Irish descent to be interested in Irish dance any more than you have to be French to enjoy ballet. We welcome people of all backgrounds and genders. Irish dance is a unique art form with many expressions and opportunities for dancers of all levels.
I am excited to see what each year brings to the studio and for the opportunity to grow with each of you. Whether you are new to Irish dance, new to Kaleidoscope Irish Dance and Movement Studio, or continuing your journey with us, we invite you to come dance for a lifetime!
Síocháin,
Marjorie
