Counsellor-in-Training

Our Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) program is a three-week, application-based experience for students finished Grades 9 or 10, designed to deepen leadership development through direct mentorship alongside experienced staff. Throughout the program, participants will gain hands-on experience working with campers of all ages, learning how to lead groups while fostering a safe, supportive and engaging camp environment. CITs participate in a variety of dynamic, skill-building activities, developing practical abilities in communication, behaviour guidance, activity planning and facilitation, and camper care, while also exploring important topics such as child development, Community, Inclusion and Belonging (CIB), and positive role modelling.

Through observation, guided practice and supported leadership opportunities, CITs will build confidence and gain a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to be an effective leader and camp counsellor. By the end of the three weeks, participants are well-prepared for future roles in camp settings and emerge as capable, caring and empowered young mentors.

C.I.Ts have the opportunity to earn up to 30 Ontario Community Involvement Hours, which count toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by volunteering within our younger camp groups. The program also includes an exciting overnight experience that challenges participants to work collaboratively and lead with confidence. During the overnight, C.I.Ts will be encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, take initiative and build independence and resilience while taking responsibility for themselves and their peers. In a supportive environment, campers will reflect on their growth as leaders and teammates, creating memories and skills that last far beyond the overnight campfire.

Campers will receive their Emergency First Aid certification upon completion.
