Students will come to the University of Toronto – St George campus for a week-long day camp. Throughout the week, students will explore various mathematical topics in a fun, interactive, and hands-on way. Each group has a different focus.
Course Description: In this camp, math comes to life through nature as campers explore key concepts through hands-on, inquiry-based projects. Throughout the week, campers will investigate examples of math found in the natural world, from the Fibonacci sequence to fractals in snowflakes. Campers will deepen their understanding of geometry, measurement, fractions, patterns, and spatial sense through engaging activities inspired by real-world connections in nature.
Course Description: Shipwrecked on a mysterious island, campers must use their mathematical wits to survive and find their way home! Campers will master coordinate geometry to map the island, use measurement and fractions to "ration" supplies, and design sturdy shelters using 3D shapes. It’s a week of strategic problem-solving where every calculation helps the crew get one step closer to rescue.
Course Description: Math in Engineering invites campers to explore how math helps us design and build everything around us, from structures to machines and systems. Through hands-on projects, campers will use measurement, geometry, patterns, and problem-solving skills to conceptualize and build structures and simple machines, while also experimenting with circuits, basic robotics, and programming concepts. Along the way, they’ll learn and apply the engineering design process to plan, test, and improve their ideas.
Course Description: Unlock the logic behind the world’s most famous puzzles! In this program, campers dive into the mathematics of the Rubik’s Cube and other puzzles to master the principles of combinatorics, probability, and algorithm design. Through a blend of conceptual deep-dives and hands-on practice, campers will learn how to construct algorithms and solve the cube from scratch. The week culminates in a friendly fewest-moves competition, where students will put their problem-solving intuition to the ultimate test.
Course Description: In this program, campers will learn about the world of statistics! Through hands-on activities, campers will learn how to model and interpret data and strengthen their numeracy skills. Campers will practice data collection through several hands-on math labs, including conducting surveys and tracking distances of paper airplanes and other moving objects. By learning about information theory, probability, combinatorics and different number systems, campers will have a better understanding of how to process and understand the data they’ve collected.
Course Description: In this program, campers will learn about graph theory and how it relates to real world topics in epidemiology, network flow, and navigation. To do so, campers will engage in hands on activities that include building water flow networks, managing supply chains, and studying the connectivity of information and people. At the end of the week, campers will undergo a capstone project where they will use common path-finding algorithms to navigate maps of the real world.
Course Description: In this puzzle‑driven program, campers explore algebra, geometry, logic, combinatorics and probability through some of mathematics’ most captivating paradoxes and patterns. From factoring, Pascal’s Triangle to Zeno’s Paradox, Gabriel’s Horn, the Staircase Paradox, and the One Equals Two fallacy; campers will uncover how surprising contradictions reveal deeper mathematical ideas. Throughout the week, they will investigate the Rubik’s Cube, analyze the Birthday and Monty Hall paradoxes, and dive into fractals, patterning, and logic puzzles. By engaging with hands‑on challenges, campers strengthen their problem‑solving skills, creativity, and critical thinking.
