Toronto Met Day Camps answered our questions

Who are you as an organization?

For the past 40 years, Toronto Metropolitan University has offered safe and fun day camp experiences at our beautiful downtown campus. Our programs are rooted in our values of Belonging, Equity, and Growth, and are renowned for high-quality instruction and caring camp staff. Our Sport Camps, Discovery Camps, and Leadership Programs offer something for everyone!

    • Special needs: Not available
    • LGBTQ+ friendly community

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"Campers at Toronto met Day Camps get to take advantage of everything our university has to offer. This includes programming in state of the art facilities, coaching from nationally ranked coaches and athletes, and instruction from students and professors who are experts in their field.
There are not many camps where you can get tips from a national champion basketball player one week, learn Adobe Illustrator from a university professor the next week, and get hockey coaching from an Olympic gold medalist the week after that, but that's life at Toronto Met Day Camps!"

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Staff at Toronto Met Day Camps reflect the full diversity of expertise and backgrounds at Toronto Metropolitan University. Our Camp Instructors are each an expert in their field, whether that is an academic subject (at our Discovery Camps) or a varsity sport (at our Sport Camps). Alongside them are our Camp Counsellors, most of whom join us from TMU's Child & Youth Studies program or as long-time campers at the Toronto Met Day Camps program.
All staff complete mandatory training that focuses on ensuring campers are supported and safe, including emergency procedures, equity & inclusion, and more.
All staff complete a criminal background check, and must hold valid certification in Standard First Aid throughout the summer."

What do families need to know about registration?

"We've endeavored to make registration as simple as possible while ensuring we collect the information necessary to support your camper during their time at camp.
To register, just head to torontomu.ca/camps and click the blue "Register for Camp" button on the right side of any page.
Unlike other camps, all campers are accepted into Toronto Met Day Camps; there is no application process, interview, or tryout.
Registration opens mid-February, and full details are available on our website."

  • Insider Reviews & Perspectives

The Our Kids review of Toronto Met Day Camps

    our take

There are some distinct benefits to camps run, as this one is, by a world-class educational institution. The resources are rich and ample in ways that, understandably, other kinds of camps could never replicate. Science sessions are held in world-class, fully equipped lab settings; sports are conducted in professional-grade facilities. That's true of all offerings, which are varied and unique. There are News Academy camps, where kids learn about journalism while participating within a professional news gathering and broadcasting setting. There’s a bit of imagination to it all—kids who dream of being on camera news readers, for example, will be living the dream—but not much, given that, well, it’s all real and it’s all happening, with real equipment. For the right kids, it's literally a dream come true. Less obvious at first glance, but equally true, is that camps are run by staff who are at the same level, and who are themselves looking to careers in the areas that they teach within, if not having already achieved that. The location is a draw, to be sure, in the heart of the city and easily accessible by public transit. The camps have been run since 1984, and are administered with expertise and experience.

More details about property: The Toronto Metropolitan University campus sits on a 21-acre site in the heart of downtown Toronto. TMU has reshaped the downtown core of Toronto with three new buildings: the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens, the Toronto Metropolitan Image Centre in the heart of campus, and a Student Learning Centre on Yonge Street. The campus is a safe, clean, modern, and attractive space. Most of its facilities are nestled to the north-east of the Yonge Street and Dundas Street East intersection. Toronto Met Day Camp programs centre around two main facilities: the Recreation & Athletic Centre (RAC), located on the main campus, and the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC), located on the site of the former Maple Leaf Gardens on Carlton Street and just a five minute walk north of the RAC. All Toronto Met Day Camp facilities meet and exceed the high standards of the Ontario Camps Association, as well as the standards of local Health and Fire Departments. Ryerson facilities are maintained in excellent condition, allowing campers to participate safely in programming of all sorts.

    Director's Message

    Matt Edmonds, Camps Coordinator
    B.Sc., B.Ed., Camp Kid Since 1995

Welcome to Toronto Met Day Camps!

Since 1984, we have offered an outstanding Camp program to families from Toronto, throughout the Greater Toronto Area, and around the world. Our Day Camp program is renowned for its high-quality instruction, and caring and experienced camp staff.

As an accredited member of the Ontario Camps Association, we are proud to offer programs that are almost as limitless as the interests of our campers. Our Multi-Sport program has been a summer tradition for thousands of campers over the years. Our high performance sport camps offer budding athletes opportunities to develop their skills in basketball, hockey, volleyball, or soccer. And our Eureka, Architecture, and Fun with Food programs allow participants to learn from some of the most inspired minds at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Toronto Met Day Camps staff are highly trained university graduates and students, coaches, professors, University staff, and athletes. Many of our Camp staff members were themselves campers at Toronto Met Day Camps. Each staff member is committed to making a meaningful and lasting contribution to our campers.

On behalf of our entire team, I look forward to welcoming you and your family to the Toronto Met community. We can’t wait to see you at Camp!

    • I'm Sure They Will be Back Next Year!

“I just wanted to say thank you to you and your wonderful staff and volunteers. My children attended the Multi-Sport and Multi-Fun Camp last week and had a fabulous time. This was (my son’s) first day camp experience and he loved it! They were sad to leave. I’m sure they will be back next year!”

    • Full Marks for Camp!

“Another awesome summer camp – you have a done a fantastic job. This is the second time (my daughter) attended the Eureka Camp, and she gave your camp full mark! She keeps talking about how much fun it was and how friendly the teacher was. A great experience, and we will be back for sure. Next year her brother will also attend!”

    • My Daughter's Counsellor

“I wanted to write you to let you know that my kids had a very positive experience at sports camp. I really appreciate all that the counsellors and organizers have done to make this such a positive experience for the kids.

I can’t say enough about (my daughter’s) counsellor, and how great she is. (My daughter) thought so highly of her counsellor that she asked if she could be her public school teacher this September for Grade 5!”
