Our month-long CANSail 3&4 program expands on the sailing skills and theory taught in previous levels. Participants continue to master and build on skills introduced in CANSail 2 and as a result CANSail 2 level or equivalent experience is required.
In this program, our certified instructor will also introduce new and exciting elements of sailing, including racing fundamentals, trapeze and flying spinnaker. Sailors will become comfortable sailing in a double-handed Club 420 Dinghy. Sailors will also participate in a local regatta during their session to put these new skills into practice. Parent participation is required to facilitate regatta attendance.
Sailors in this program work towards achieving their CANSail 3 or 4 sailing level depending on their previous experience, but our main goal is to get participants engaged in the sport, learning new things and having fun in boats!
Character Development: This program helps build the following traits
Resilience: Sailing involves constant adaptation - to the direction of the wind, the push of the current and the course you're on. Sailors learn resilience in coping with and adapting to the ever-changing conditions they face on the water. No two days in a boat or in our program are the same!
Responsibility: In our program sailors work with their teammate to rig and de-rig their boat every day. They learn to be responsible for their boat’s equipment, reporting any issues and keeping it in good condition.
