What is taught in horseback riding lessons?

Children learn how to take control, in horseback riding lessons. As they navigate various trails and terrain, students learn basic horse riding techniques including mounting, directing, and commands. These help them control their horse and gain confidence. Other skills, such as tack care and identification help children become comfortable with all aspects of riding.

Young equestrians find peace in the beauty and serenity of surrounding nature. Some programs are available to children as young as 2 years old, though, of course, these young pupils must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Older riders, typically 10 years old and up, control their horses individually whilst following instructors for directions and cues.

Horseback riding lessons are purchasable per lesson, and costs vary depending on the duration of each session. On average, the standard price for a lesson is between $20-$70 per person. Multidisciplinary programs offering horseback activities focus on wellness activities such as yoga and arts and crafts

Consult with programs listed above to learn what they teach.

    About advanced horseback riding lessons

Advanced horse programs encourage children to emotionally connect with their steed. Animals are known to be supportive of young children, providing them with comfort and ease through times of stress, anger, or anxiety. Horseback riding programs that encourage deeper connections between the rider and horse explore the mental health benefits of horseback riding.

Advanced horseback riding programs nurture capable, strong leaders. By learning to control an animal as mighty as a horse, children adopt leadership skills including confidence and empathy. Since programs are coeducational, children practice these skills with a diverse group.

Why enroll in horseback riding programs?

Horseback riding lessons bring out the best in your child. Here’s what you can expect in these lessons:

    • Develop a deeper understanding of horses. Children learn how horses communicate their emotions through body language and vocal cues.
    • Adventure! Students navigate through everything from forests to badlands in programs. Horse riding lessons satisfy children’s need for nature.
    • Horseback riding is great exercise! Through consistent riding, children strengthen their legs and arms and improve their endurance.
    • Socialization between peers, teachers, and animals is important during lessons. Children broaden their social circle in these programs.

Mental and physical health benefits have been found with horseback riding. Serotonin is released throughout the body, relieving stress or anxiety. Horseback riding’s meditative nature is also therapeutic.
