Borealis Adventure Camp answered our questions

Who are you as an organization?

Borealis brings the best elements of camp together to deliver a truly camper-centric, traditional camp experience. Campers discover the joy of being outdoors, while skills like leadership, teamwork and self-reliance blossom through a range of activities they choose, from canoeing to creative arts. Our beautiful private lake, surrounded by pristine wilderness, near Bancroft, Ontario, provides the setting where campers create magical memories and form friendships that stand the test of time. Our site provides comfort and connectedness through a thoughtful design, where campers can access their canvas wall tent cabins, just steps from the dining hall and washroom/shower facilities, all with a view of the lake.

    • Special needs: Not available
    • LGBTQ+ friendly community

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"When it comes to our campers, our top priority is that everyone who joins us for the summer has an incredible experience, full of positive, growth filled moments that inspire and serve as a catalyst for the creation of enhanced self worth, lifelong friendships and cherished memories.

We prioritize compassion and empathy when interacting with our campers, through a focus on positivity and gratitude. The intention with which we interact with each other and the site where camp takes place, leads to the creation of consistent joy for our campers.

The uniqueness of our site enables us to provide an experience that combines the comforts of a base camp, with the adventure that ensues during a back-country canoe trip."

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Here, campers are 100% of our focus and are genuinely cared for. Our knowledgeable and experienced staff members are not only friendly, compassionate people, they are talented mentors who instruct and inspire.

Our staff play an incredibly important role in how our camp community comes together year after year, so it's probably no surprise that we spend a ton of time identifying talented people and getting to know what makes each and every one of them a great fit with our philosophy. It's also why we go the extra mile to retain them when they continually prove their commitment to our campers.

We hire staff who are 18+, ensuring our camp families get the most mature staff team possible."

What do families need to know about registration?

"Enrollment for each camp season opens September 1st, and as a smaller capacity camp, space will be limited.

Enrollment is easy to complete through our CampBrain portal, while the information we gather is detailed to ensure your camper has the most success possible at camp.

Our monthly installment plan makes payment easy to manage, while our cancellation policy provides for plenty of wiggle room, depending on what time of the year you need to make adjustments to your plans.

We welcome every camper to the Borealis family with a personal call from one of our directors, and a welcome package that will bring a smile to your campers face :)"

The Our Kids review of Borealis Adventure Camp

    our take

Borealis Adventure Camp promises the best summer ever. And when you realize that the primary focus on this camp is to give campers an incredible experience, you trust that it will be just that—the best summer ever. The camp is programmed so that there are many positive and growth-filled moments, whether that’s in the form of peer interaction, jumping into the beautiful lake for a morning dip, or singing a song you wrote in front of the campfire. Kids who are nervous about camp will soon realize that this is a home away from home. Accommodations aren’t too shabby either and not your typical camp bunkhouse. Instead, campers stay in glamping cabins, with private washrooms and changing areas. Technology is shunned here and devices are not allowed. Campers are encouraged to connect with bunkmates and write letters home the traditional way. The food is fresh and local and dare we say, delicious. Founder Jory Elliott’s enthusiasm for kids having a great time at camp is what spurs the magic of this camp, and it definitely shows in the smiles and laughter that are rampant here.
