Who doesn’t love stickers? In this camp, learn how to design your own with Inkscape and have a machine custom cut your creations. Rather than hand cutting a lot of our stickers and paper crafts, students will be introduced to the Cricut - a CNC Machine capable of cutting a variety of materials.

In addition to designing stickers, students will have an opportunity to learn various design techniques to create other projects such as bookmarks, greeting cards, paper puppets, paper rolled bouquets and more.

When and Where?

Monday June 29 - Friday July 3, 2026; 1:00-4:00pm (no class on July 1).

Location: The Vancouver Independent School for Science and Technology (VISST): 1490 West Broadway, Vancouver.

Who?

This camp is for students going into grades 5-8.

Why should you attend?

Explore ways to think creatively and express your ideas visually.

Learn digital design fundamentals like layout, vector art, and visual planning using Inkscape.

Learn about precision cutting and how to take a digital design into the physical world using Cricut machines. These are practical skills that blend artistic creativity with technology — skills useful for school projects and future hobbies.

Designing something from scratch and then making it come to life requires planning, testing, revising, and problem-solving - Learn to think critically and improve your work step by step — a great confidence booster!

Earn a certificate of completion from the Vancouver Independent School for Science and Technology.

What will you learn?

Shredding It Up: Cricuts are a versatile tool for paper crafts, sticker making, vinyl cutting, and much more. Replacing the cumbersome task of cutting things by hand with a pair of scissors, the Cricut can accurately cut custom creations.

Digital Illustration: Inkscape is a powerful free software that allows users to create amazing custom graphics that can be applied to many different types of mediums.

To Be Creative: Machines are not just all robots and calculations. CNC tools are an opportunity to use machines for creative endeavours and to explore new ways of bringing ideas to life.

Program Requirements

Students should bring their own laptops with Inkscape and Cricut Design Space installed. A mouse is also strongly recommended.

Parents are asked to install programs ahead of time if they have permission settings on their devices, as well as to adjust any screen time limits.

All other materials will be provided. Students are welcome to bring in their own materials too once they learn the tools’ capabilities.
