3D Design and Printing: Where imagination meets technology! Young creators will gain hands-on experience in designing 3D models using Blender, a free and popular 3D modeling progam. Then, in VISST’s own Maker Space, students will learn how to use 3D printers to print their models. Discover the future of prototyping, modeling and engineering while flexing your creative muscles.

When and Where?

Monday June 29 - Friday July 3, 2026; 9:00am-12:00noon (no class on July 1).

(alternate date: Aug 4-7, If you prefer this date, register here).

Location: The Vancouver Independent School for Science and Technology (VISST): 1490 West Broadway, Vancouver.

Who?

This camp is for students going into grades 5-8.

Why should you attend?

Create your own 3D models and designs using Blender, a free and powerful 3D modeling software.

Discover and practice how to operate a Fused Filament Fabrication 3D Printer, a powerful tool used in many industries.

Learn about rapid prototyping and expand on your creative capabilities.

Earn a certificate of completion from the Vancouver Independent School for Science and Technology.

What will you learn?

Where Did That Model Come From?: 3D Printers are Additive Manufacturing CNC Machines designed to bring your imagination to life. Students will learn about 3D printers and how to operate them.

Digital Design: Using Blender, students will learn how to generate and customize their own 3D models and prepare them for printing.

Prototype, Iterate, Fabricate: Sometimes designs don’t turn out the way you initially intended - this is the time to review and revise. With guidance and feedback from instructors, students will learn how to build off of their initial prototypes and improve their designs for future prints.

To Be Creative: Machines are not just all robots and calculations. 3D Printers are an opportunity to use machines for creative endeavours and to explore new ways of bringing ideas to life

Program Requirements

Students should bring their own laptops with Blender and Cura installed. A mouse is also strongly recommended.

Parents are asked to install programs ahead of time if they have permission settings on their devices, as well as to adjust any screen time limits.

All other required materials will be provided.
