Located at Variety Village,  in Toronto, the Swim Patrol provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim. Swim Patrol's three levels - Rookie, Ranger, and Star - continue to develop participants' swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society's Bronze medal awards.

Rookie Patrol

Rookie Patrol is the first step in the Lifesaving Society’s Patrol program and is perfect for swimmers who want to build endurance and learn essential lifesaving skills. In this level, swimmers continue stroke development with 50-meter swims of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke to improve technique and efficiency.

Lifesaving Sport skills are introduced through a 25-meter obstacle swim and a 15-meter object carry, which teach strength and rescue readiness. First aid training focuses on assessing conscious victims, contacting EMS, and treating bleeding injuries, giving swimmers practical emergency response skills.

Fitness is a key component of Rookie Patrol, with 350-meter workouts and 100-meter timed swims to build stamina and speed. This program is ideal for children who are confident swimmers and ready to start learning lifesaving fundamentals.

Ranger Patrol

Ranger Patrol takes lifesaving skills to the next level while continuing to develop strong swimming technique. Swimmers will refine their strokes with 75-meter swims of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, improving endurance and efficiency.

This level introduces advanced Lifesaving Sport skills, including a lifesaving medley, timed object support, and rescues using a buoyant aid. First aid training focuses on assessing unconscious victims, treating victims in shock, and performing obstructed airway procedures, which are critical for emergency situations.

Skill drills throughout the program help swimmers build a strong foundation in lifesaving techniques while improving overall fitness and confidence in the water.

Star Patrol

Star Patrol is the most challenging level in the Patrol series and is designed for swimmers who want to master lifesaving skills and achieve peak fitness. This program includes 600-meter endurance workouts, 300-meter timed swims, and a 25-meter object carry, all aimed at building strength and stamina.

Swimmers will refine strokes over 100-meter swims, ensuring proper technique for front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke. First aid training focuses on bone and joint injury treatment and respiratory emergencies, including asthma and allergic reactions, preparing swimmers for real-life scenarios.

Lifesaving skills include defense methods, victim removals, and techniques for rolling over and supporting a victim face-up in shallow water. Star Patrol is the perfect program for swimmers who want to combine fitness, advanced swimming, and lifesaving expertise.
