Whale Level 5
Level 5 is designed for swimmers who are ready to take their skills to the next level by increasing distance and mastering advanced water safety techniques. At this stage, swimmers will complete a 50-meter distance swim, building endurance and confidence in the water. They will be introduced to a throwing assist without a line, an important lifesaving skill.
Swimmers will refine their strokes with 20 meters each of front crawl and back crawl, and demonstrate 15 meters of whip kick. Underwater swimming skills are introduced with a 5-meter underwater swim, and students will practice treading water for 30 seconds to improve survival skills.
This level also includes fun and challenging activities such as handstands in the water and standing dives, while reinforcing safety knowledge like boating safety and understanding peer influence. Emphasis is placed on safety protocols to ensure swimmers develop strong habits both in and around the water.
Whale Level 6
Level 6 is for intermediate swimmers who are ready to improve technique and stamina while learning advanced water safety skills. Swimmers will practice full lengths of front crawl, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with proper breathing techniques. This level introduces the elementary backstroke, with a 10-meter distance requirement.
Students will complete a 75-meter distance swim, perform a standing dive, and learn both eggbeater kick and treading water for extended periods. Water safety skills are a major focus, including throwing assists with a line, recognizing a distressed swimmer, and understanding how to respond to a partial choking obstruction.
By the end of Level 6, swimmers will have the confidence and skills to handle more complex strokes and safety scenarios, preparing them for advanced aquatic activities.
Whale Level 7
Level 7 is designed for swimmers who want to refine their strokes and build endurance for advanced swimming. This level focuses on stroke correction and efficiency, with 25 meters of whip kick, 15 meters of breaststroke arm drills, and 15 meters of elementary backstroke. Swimmers will also complete 50 meters of front crawl and back crawl, including 5 meters of head-up variations for added challenge.
Endurance training includes a 150-meter continuous swim, sprints in front and back crawl, and interval training to improve speed and stamina. Students will practice advanced entries such as stride entries, along with treading water and eggbeater kicks for extended periods.
Water safety remains a priority, with skills like object recovery, choking rescue techniques, and learning to use rescue equipment. Swimmers will also learn about open water dangers, reinforce safety habits, and understand ice conditions for cold-weather safety.
