The Spring Enrichment Club is designed for children who are looking for greater challenges and new ways to stimulate their interest in math. We will be offering some special themes and formats this Spring.
Description: This Grade 3/4 Cryptography course transforms students into master codebreakers as they explore the fascinating intersection of mathematics, history, and secret communication. Learners will master various encryption techniques—from ancient Caesar shifts to geometric pigpen ciphers—while strengthening their mental math, pattern recognition, and logical reasoning skills. Through hands-on "missions," students will discover how to hide, protect, and uncover information, building a foundation for future studies in data science and cybersecurity.
Description: In this program, students will learn the underlying mathematical principles involved in game design. By examining theory behind various forms of games, such as zero-sum and symmetric games, students will develop winning game strategies and will eventually design their own strategic games. Students will also strengthen their understanding of broader mathematical topics like combinatorics and probability through various games, activities and discussion.
Description: This course will explore a range of mathematical puzzles and paradoxes that challenge intuition and require careful reasoning to resolve. Students will investigate well-known thought experiments such as the infinite hotel and Birthday Paradox, while applying concepts from probability, algebra, geometry, and logic. Through the introduction of fascinating problems, they will analyze patterns, test assumptions, and develop clear mathematical explanations for results that may initially seem impossible. The course will emphasize structured problem solving and the ability to distinguish between intuition and mathematical rigour.
Description: In this course students will explore the fundamentals of linear algebra. Concepts covered will include vectors, matrices, bases, linear transformations, and some very basic multi-variable calculus. Accompanying each lesson will be interactive visualizations of in-class topics to help students develop a deeper understanding of abstract mathematical concepts
