The Spring In-Person Math Circle Problem Solving Club is designed for children who are looking for greater challenges and new ways to stimulate their interest in math. Math circles originated in the 1930s and now exist in most places around the world. Students will get creative when investigating problems that are “easy to pose, challenging to solve, require connections among several concepts and techniques, and lead to significant math ideas."

In this course, students will be introduced to the foundations of mathematical proofs to understand the reasoning behind higher-level mathematics. Through collaborative problem solving, they will learn core proof techniques such as direct proof, contradiction, and induction. The goal of the course is to practice forming well-structured arguments, which is a necessary skill for university level mathematics courses.
