Spring Enrichment: Online Math Circles

By: University of Toronto, Department of Mathematics

About this Program:

Math circles originated in the 1930s and now exist in most places around the world. Students will get creative when investigating problems that are “easy to pose, challenging to solve, require connections among several concepts and techniques, and lead to significant math ideas."

Sections:

  • Grade 3/4 Math Circle Problem-Solving Club
  • Grade 5/6 Math Circle Problem-Solving Club
  • Grade 7/8 Math Circle Problem-Solving Club

Additional Virtual High-School Programs offered this Spring:

  • Grade 9 EQAO Preparation Course

Course Description: This course is intended to prepare students for the Grade 9 EQAO Mathematics Assessment. It focuses on strengthening their understanding of the Ontario Grade 9 de-streamed curriculum (MTH1W), covering Number, Algebra, Data, Geometry and Measurement, and Financial Literacy. The course emphasizes multi-step questions similar to those on the EQAO assessment, building confidence and readiness for the assessment.

  • Grade 9 - 12 Advanced Math Club: Group Theory in Action - From Puzzles to Financial Models

Course Description: In this course, students will explore symmetry and group theory as powerful connections between abstract mathematics and the real world. Through hands-on investigations of combination puzzles, they will uncover the hidden structures that govern patterns and transformations. Building on these foundations, students will apply group-theoretical thinking to model growth, risk, and other financial systems.
