Who are you as an organization?
Now in our 31st year, MHSB’s goal is to provide a welcoming, positive, caring atmosphere for dancers of all backgrounds, regardless of age or ability. We offer after school and weekend classes for youth and adults as well as PA Day, March Break, Passover, and Summer Camps. We offer classes in Creative movement, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip hop, and Musical theatre.

Special needs: Yes, mild support.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"MHSB provides over a thousand aspiring young dancers with superb training in an energetic, caring environment. Over the years, the artistic staff at the school has steadily increased. Our teachers come from many diverse professional backgrounds and bring with them a wonderful array of skills and talents. MHSB’s goal is to provide a welcoming, positive, caring atmosphere for dancers of all backgrounds. Regardless of age or ability, students will have the opportunity to explore the magic of movement and benefit from a healthy extracurricular activity.

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Our teachers come from many diverse professional backgrounds and bring with them a wonderful array of skills and talents. Many of our teachers have graduated from the Toronto School of Dance and Theatre, Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, York University for dance, and George Brown. They all share a love and passion for dance which they bring to every one of their classes. In many of our classes, the instructor also has a trained assistant. Assistants aid the teacher by correcting techniques and demonstrating steps. "

What do families need to know about registration?

"Registration is available through our website mhsb.ca throughout the year. We process registration on an ongoing basis, and any late registration is pro-rated."

The Our Kids review of The Martha Hicks School of Ballet

It’s increasingly important for kids to explore artistic interests, developing them into passions if possible. Martha Hicks School of Ballet is an oasis from the stress and anxiety kids face today. Kids take part in creative movement, ballet classes, tap and jazz dance lessons, and other forms of expression ranging from hip-hop dance to musical theatre. The school’s professional studio space is equipped with state-of-the-art sprung floors, barres, and mirrors. Teachers are supportive and engaging but also focused on making things fun for young dancers. Inspired by the beautiful space and experienced instructors, many kids end up taking up dance for many years. Many fall in love with dance.

Rentals & Services

Offers children's birthday party packages: Yes
Birthday parties can be booked on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Dates and times are available on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Duration: 2 hours A teacher and assistant will be facilitating the party and assist with prep/clean up. Party Details: $450 + HST - Includes a $75 deposit non-refundable - Studio Rental, Teacher, Assistant and Choreography personalized to your theme to be performed at the end of the party. - Tablecloth, tables, and chairs for the party set up and showing. - Parents to provide all decorations, food, cake, loot bags etc. A $75 deposit is due on the date the party is booked. The remaining balance is due on the actual day of the party. Maximum of 16 children, for party groups between 16-20 there will be an additional $50 charge. You may request a specific MHSB teacher, but we cannot guarantee they will be available. Parents to provide all decorations, food, cake, loot bags, etc. Ages 4 and up: Can choose between a ballet or jazz party Ages 7 and up: Can choose between a ballet, jazz or hip hop party Location: 1660 Avenue Road, 2nd floor.
