Course Description

The Literature Reading and Writing course is based on award-winning classics or bestsellers and teaches students how to quietly appreciate the classics and read a good book. The course will not only lead students from the cultural and religious backgrounds and social issues, but will also teach academic language knowledge in the best works, which in turn will enhance academic language skills while cultivating a humanistic background.

Who Should Choose This Course?

  • Whoever wants to improve the language skills by reading and analyzing world masterpiece
  • Whoever wants to improve the GPA of Language Arts class in schoolwork
  • Whoever wants to dive in the world of literature

The Book

Frankenstein

Though Frankenstein is infused with elements of the Gothic Novel and the Romantic movement, Brian Aldiss has argued that it should be considered the first true science fiction story. In contrast to previous stories with fantastical elements resembling those of later science fiction, Aldiss states that the central character "makes a deliberate decision" and "turns to modern experiments in the laboratory" to achieve fantastic results. The novel has had a considerable influence on literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films, and play.

Grade Preference

Grade 5 - Grade 6

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Creativity: There is nothing like reading to grow creativity. We will use essays as a form of homework where students can think for themselves and create their own.
  • Self-regulation: All of the books need to be read by the students themselves before class, which is a very important challenge especially for students of this age.
