    Best Family Vacation Ever

Our one-week stay at Istmo Retreat Center was absolutely amazing! My husband and I went there with our two kids, aged 9 and 14, and we had an incredible time. The tree-lined beach with black and white sand was just a short walk away, and we all loved swimming and playing there. We took a surfing lesson at a nearby beach that we enjoyed as much as our kids. We even got to see two really cool waterfalls nearby, which was super exciting. The highlight of our trip was visiting the Embera village. We spent a day there, learned about their culture, and our kids played soccer with the local kids on their slippery mud “soccer field” – so much fun! The owners, Sean and Ayesha, were really nice and made our stay even better. They made sure we had delicious food and felt at home. The food is outstanding; even our 14-year-old, who is picky, loved the food. This was honestly the best family vacation we've ever had, and we're already planning to go back to Istmo because it was just that awesome ... Show More

Great value for all the experiences we got in one week

I can't believe how much we did in a week. My wife and I took our 8 and 10 year old and weren't sure exactly what to expect. Hiking, paddleboarding, surfing, time at the beach, waterfalls, and the visit to the tribe. Our kids had a blast! The pace of activities was fast but we also squeezed in some down time while our kids did some activities in Spanish, which was great because they got to use some of what they have learned in school. Seems like we did a months worth of activities in one week. We ate fresh fish, fresh fruit, veggies, and Sean made sure to cater to our son who is lactose intolerant. The attention to detail was impressive. Great value for all the experiences we got in one week. We would love to come back ... Show More

We saw a sloth swimming in the river!

We had so much fun at Istmo. The best part was the surfing, swimming at the waterfall, and playing on the beach. The food was really good especially the Cacao smoothies. We saw a sloth swimming in the river, it was so cute ... Show More

"We set out to create a vacation/camp experience that combines adventure, comfort, relaxation, and good food for you and your family. Why should kids have all the fun? We would like parents there as well. This is an experience that will strengthen family bonds through exciting activities and cultural immersion. Our Istmo location, surrounded by rainforest and close to a beautiful beach at the base of a large extinct volcano, is positioned to offer all of these activities in the area of our retreat center. We created something that we were looking for in a family camp experience. We could only find either a kids-only summer camp or an international family vacation where we had to hire a personal tour guide. We would have loved the idea to have an experience like this to share with other families with kids. If this resonates with you, then join us for our next family camp."
