Maple Syrup Trips – Fair Havens Outdoor Education

Our Maple Syrup Trips offer school groups a one-of-a-kind, hands-on learning experience in the heart of nature. What makes this program special is its combination of seasonal outdoor adventure, interactive science learning, and a connection to local heritage. Students leave with both practical knowledge about maple syrup production and memorable experiences in a safe, education-centred environment.

During a Maple Syrup Trip, children rotate through 3–6 learning stations where they explore topics like tree biology, sap collection, the syrup-making process, and environmental stewardship. Activities are designed to be active, engaging, and curriculum-linked, helping students see science and nature in action.

A typical day begins with a welcome and safety orientation, followed by the learning stations where students work in small groups under the guidance of trained Fair Havens staff. Between stations, students enjoy time outdoors on our 3-acre sports field or explore nearby trails. Full-day trips include lunch and opportunities to purchase maple syrup made from trees on the property as a take-home connection to their learning.

By the end of the trip, students have not only learned about maple syrup and the natural environment but also developed teamwork, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for creation. Maple Syrup Trips are ideal for K–5 students, school groups, and youth organizations seeking a fun, educational, and memorable outdoor experience.
