Participants must be 16 years old by December 31st of the camp session’s calendar year.
We recommend participants complete Leadership 1 or an equivalent program and have their Bronze Cross swimming level or are confident swimmers. Participants must be comfortable and competent canoeists with experience on canoe trips.

The Venture LIT program is the second option for 16 year olds in our CQE leadership training program. This program focuses on the development of leadership and advanced tripping skills in a wilderness environment. This program has been specifically modified and designed to help support the development of our leaders and ensure they feel successful in this program after two summers away from camp.

Participants will spend the first night of the program at camp and then head out the following morning on their canoe trip where they will develop skills in decision-making, risk management, environmental stewardship, and group management. This incredibly unique experience and environment allows participants to form deep bonds with the natural world and their fellow leaders, while learning and growing in a supportive space.

Ahead of their canoe trip experience CQE will hold a “Venture White Water Training Weekend” for all participants on May 30-June 1. Over this weekend the Venture Trainers will teach their participants the fundamental’s on white water paddling and safety to ensure everyone is set up for success for their upcoming trip.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Interpersonal skills: Our campers participate in activities that encourage communication, empathy and cooperation, all in a supportive and safe environment.
  • Resilience: Skill building is an integral part of the Venture experience and resilience is built while achieving those skills. Ventures build mental resilience while spending their days in the remote wilderness, building their whitewater canoe skills, and building interpersonal relationships with their group.
