(5) Overall experience
Brittany was born with God-given talent in music. She was diagnosed with ASD (high-functioning). She has difficulty in close acquaintance to other people. She started to play piano when she was still a baby. For the first time, we enrolled her in one of the piano schools in Centerpoint Mall, but I ended up cancelling it because she didn't like the teacher. I searched for another school close to our home, and I found the WSM. For the second time, I tried to enroll her in WSM. And she likes it a lot. She loves her teacher, Raylan Phillips, and she has a good relationship with him. She's always excited and looking forward to attending her lesson every Sunday. As long as she wants, I will keep her at WSM to attend her piano lessons.
(5) Reason for choosing the program
Brittany was born with a God-given talent in music, whether playing piano & guitar or singing. We want her to improve and learn more so that whatever she decides in the future- to become a teacher or a performer- she has all the knowledge of it. We chose to enroll her in piano lessons because, by only watching on YouTube without notes or whatsoever, if she likes the song, she can play the whole song right away. She loves to play piano the most. Second, she loves to sing, and she loves to play guitar as well. This is why I want her to take piano lessons over others. The progression, the advancement, and the development she is acquiring from being a student of WSM, leading to her success, are worth the investment.
(5) Program quality and activities
Since she was a baby, we saw Brittany's talent in music, especially in piano. She was diagnosed with ASD. Piano lessons or music in general offer her powerful, multi-sensory benefits. It would enhance her ability to understand the depth of music. It will develop her self-esteem, and it will help her express herself. As she's taking her lessons, she's also studying because she's preparing to take an examination or a test from the most prestigious school of music, RCM, to get credit grades later when she goes to high school. She did her first recital last June, and she did an excellent performance.
(5) Social dynamics and experience
First of all, she loves her teacher, Raylan Phillips; she has a good relationship with him, and they are friends. She's always looking forward every Sunday to seeing him. Raylan is an awesome teacher. He knows his field very well. We had no other issues, no bullying, no bad experiences, and no discrimination encountered in going to WSM. WSM is very focused on each of their students. The WSM team is amazing, especially Sarah & Zee.
(5) Skills and growth
Brittany started with no level at all. She started in February 2026, and currently she's in Level 5. She will be taking an examination in RCM, and she's preparing for it. This would be a very big challenge for her. She learned a lot of advanced lessons according to her level. It developed her efficiency in learning and practicing piano. Playing on stage boosts her self-esteem and gets rid of stage fright. She gains more self-confidence.
(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
Brittany has autism. She's having difficulty in getting along with others. But with her teacher, Raylan, she felt comfortable talking, laughing and communicating with him. Raylan supports Brittany by giving her handouts, notes, targets, or points to concentrate on. He also communicates with me everything that he taught Brittany, what they tackled or studied, and what they need to study next time. Whenever I message him, he replies to me right away. Whenever I have an emergency and requested for a make-up classes, he resolves my issues right away, giving me alternatives that work with me all the time. When I email Sarah or Zee, every time I have something to clarify, they reply to me and answer me.
(5) Advice and tips
Figure out what lesson(s) and time that best suit your kid(s) and your schedules. Enroll your kid(s) according to her strength, down to the least. Learning and taking lessons in WSM is the first step and the best foundation for the future. WSM has the best teachers in different categories or programs and schedules that you can choose. I wish I had known WSM before, so that Brittany would have started piano lessons at an early age. Practice also at home.
