Review: Saint Veronica Children's Centre Summer Camp
    Paolo (Parent)

Following the 2020 spring shut-down of the centre due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I enrolled my child into the SVCC Outdooor Summer Camp Program which was the first time that any of my children had ever been enrolled in an all-day, every-day summer activity. I initially had my concerns and reservations about my child’s re-entry into the building after such a layoff but Nicole and the Summer Camp Team were always personable, honest, lively and showed genuine concern for the well-being of my child and his social development. From the end of his very first day and his first “Outdoors in the Forest” experience my child always knew that he was safe and happy and I felt immeasurably relieved at the same time. ... Read More

Review: Prince of Peace Children's Centre : Summer Camp
    Stephen and Susan (Parent)

We had such a good experience we decided to use Upper Canada for summer camp in 2014 for both our girls (at the time aged 3 and 5). The only issue we had was our girls no longer liked to stay at home and preferred camp! The summer camp is unreal with lots of activities and very cool trips. We then enrolled our eldest daughter Sekora in the after school program and when Selanne joined elementary school she also joined. Similar experience, both loved it. To the point that daddy would get upset sometimes during pick up when the girls did not want to leave ... Read More

Summer Camp Survey Feedback - Little Rouge Children's Centre
    Anonymous (Parent)

We have come to know and love the centre and providers. We were nervous that it would be a weirdly clinical experience for our kids (daycare and camp) due to COVID. However, the staff did a fantastic job of maintaining that warm, welcoming and truly loving experience we’ve come to know and love from little rouge. Our girls both love their providers and both have had excellent experiences that didn’t feel that much different from normal, which we really appreciate. ... Read More

    Reference Letter
    Sandra (Parent)

November 5, 2020 To whom it may concern, I am pleased to provide a reference letter in regards to Upper Canada Child Care. Both of my children are attending the before and after care programs at the centre located in St. Veronica and have attended their summer camps as well over the last few years. I have the utmost confidence in their program. The staff is so caring, friendly and well organized. Communication is great and the supervisors always respond to any of my queries in a timely manner. They have implemented the use of Storypark so I get to see pictures and read stories of what my kids participated in that day. Seeing my kids' smiles on their faces in those pictures is so nice. They have revamped their program over the years and have introduced a "nature" element in all of their programs. My kids attend the forest on a weekly basis and they truly enjoy that outdoor time which is very important, especially these days. I know that my children are safe and in great care. My kids truly do enjoy their time there and they have many fun activities planned for the kids all the time. I would highly recommend this child care centre to all families. Yours Truly, Sandra ... Dear Upper Canada Child Care Camp
    Alicia Gallone (Parent)

Thank you for a great summer! The staff were very friendly and communicated with me on a daily basis. When there was an event, I knew well in advance of what I needed to bring and what was planned. The trips the centre picked were fun. My daughter always came home excited and told me all kinds of things about what she did that day. I would bring my daughter again to the Summer Camp program at Upper Canada Child Care. Thank You. • What's New

    Director's Message

Nicole Comrie-Bain, Outdoor Education and Camp Coordinator
    RECE, Forest School Practitioner

Summer vacation is an opportunity for children to freely explore ideas, pursue interests, and have new experiences. Since 1983, Upper Canada Child Care's licensed day camps have been providing as many of those opportunities as possible!

During the school year, children are guided through a set curriculum, primarily indoors, and in a set learning environment. UCCC summer camp is an opportunity for children to explore spaces and activities according to their own interests and goals; to that end, our programs provide a balance of planned experiences and space for important self-directed pursuits.

All of our employees are well versed in pandemic protocols. Our employees are also experienced in delivering fun, and engaging programs, and have done so in challenging circumstances over the last two years.

Our camps are known for our weekly excursions to area beaches, conservation areas, and some major attractions in the GTA.  These trips add weekly adventures and maybe a new experience for children. With 30+ camps, each trip schedule will be a bit different.  We are excited to get back out there in 2022.

Another unique feature and an added convenience for families is that extended care is included in our camp fees. From 7:00 to 9:00 AM we offer quiet activities and a morning snack. The camp program itself begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 4:00 PM. After 4:00 PM we have an afternoon snack and campers wind down from their busy day with free play and child-directed activities until 6:00 PM. Families have the flexibility to decide what schedule best suits their child and family.

We also add value to families by providing a complimentary pizza lunch to campers once per week, giving a much-needed break from packing lunchboxes.

During camp hours, we prefer to do as many activities outdoors as possible by taking advantage of the surroundings in our communities, such as: green spaces, local parks and splash pads, maybe a visit to the local fire station, in addition to our weekly trips. We like to be busy and active.  Activities may include sports, geocaching, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, water balloon toss, or a game of capture the flag.

Our programs are focused on having fun as a group, enjoying the freedom summer vacation provides, and being outdoors. Join us, it’s going to be a great summer!

    Stories

    • Upper Canada Child Care added a Forest School

We were so excited to open our first Forest School in September 2021.  It has added so much to our knowledge about children and learning outdoors.  Our Outdoor Education Coordinator  and our Camp Coordinator are both Forest School Certified and have been running our Forest School Program at White Pines from the beginning.  Their knowledge and its impact on our camp programs will be significant.

We have noticed through the pandemic, that being able to get outdoors has allowed more freedom and less stress caused by COVID-19 protocols.  As a licensed care provider, who also provides camp programs  our protocols are very stringent, so time outdoors has been and will continue to be very important in our programs.

Since September it has been our priority to bring our preschool classes and their educators to White Pines Forest School throughout the year to benefit both children and educators. Their adventures in varied weather/seasons foster outdoor education and its implementation in all of our programs.

We hope to see you outside!
