Since '84, we've guided countless students on their musical journey. Offering private lessons in piano, guitar, drums, violin, vocals, and more, our experienced and educated teachers are dedicated to making learning fun for all ages, levels, and styles. Our teachers tailor their lessons to the learning styles and goals of each student. We host two recitals each year at no extra cost, each student is welcomed to the studio with a tote bag filled with learning tools and instrument-specific accessories, and once a year, we're visited by a professional photographer for Picture Day!
We're proud to be the only school in Kitchener-Waterloo to participate in the Musical Ladder program (an incentive tool awarding students certificates, wristbands, and trophies for completing goals). Further, we are a designated Plan2Protect Safe School, and our one-of-a-kind group make-up class system is unique to the region.

At The Kitchener Academy of Music, we practice rolling registration, which allows for faster processing, and accommodates specific needs of individual families. Students can register online or in person, and they can usually attend their first lesson as early as two weeks from the date of inquiry. As our billing cycles are monthly, we don't require long-term commitment. Registration involves a one-time non-refundable fee of $50.

TKAM’s music education is both grounded and inspiring, thoughtfully balancing technical skill development with personal growth. Founder Kandice Kreutner and her team are committed to making music learning accessible, engaging, and meaningful for everyone. What truly stands out is the teachers’ blend of technical expertise and genuine connection, adapting instruction to each child’s abilities, goals, and interests.
Whether a beginner picking up an instrument for the first time or an intermediate student preparing for auditions and exams, students steadily build confidence alongside competence. Afterschool programming includes lessons in piano, voice, violin, guitar, drums, and other instruments, as well as songwriting and musical theatre. Beyond individual lessons, ensembles and group programs foster collaboration, stage presence, and a sense of belonging.
Underlying it all is Kreutner’s more than four decades of teaching experience. Over the years, her school has refined its approach to create a consistently warm, supportive atmosphere where students feel encouraged, capable, and genuinely excited to grow.
The Kitchener Academy of Music is home to over twenty formally-educated music teachers. We hold our instructors to the highest standard: teachers are equipped to prepare students for Royal Conservatory of Music exams, help them develop performance careers, and train them for high school or university auditions. Every year, each member of our staff attends Plan2Protect Abuse Prevention and Protection training and submits an updated Vulnerable Sector police check to management.
