Stop scrolling and start building this summer! Launch your ideas with Slingshot App Lab Level 1: Builder Mode. Hosted at Branksome Hall's innovation hub, this one-week summer program is where creativity meets technology. It is the perfect entry point for beginners (Ages 11–13 / Grades 6-8) who want to design their first mobile app—going from a blank page to a polished wireframe design.
In Builder Mode, students learn the foundational skills of app development typically offered in post-secondary settings. They will dive into design thinking to discover real user problems, learn creative coding basics to understand how apps "think," and build eye-catching interfaces using UI/UX design principles.
Program Highlights:
Hands-on Workshops: Map user journeys, build wireframes, and participate in “Vibe Coding” sessions to experiment with interactive features.
Capstone Project: Walk away with a polished wireframe for your own Productivity App (like a habit builder or next-gen to-do tool)
Professional Outcomes: Earn a certificate of completion for your portfolio.
Character Development: This program helps build the following traits
Creativity: In Builder Mode, creativity meets technology. Students don't just consume digital content; they learn to create it. From brainstorming solutions for real user problems to mapping user journeys and designing eye-catching UI/UX interfaces, participants turn their unique ideas into visual reality.
Independence: By building their very first app from a blank page to a polished wireframe, students develop strong self-initiative. They learn to take ownership of their capstone productivity app, gaining the technical confidence and self-motivation needed to tackle future, real-world tech challenges.
