    COVID-19 Response

The OSA is operating camps for children and teens aged 6-17 years old this spring/summer, at both the Downtown and Orleans campuses, with strict health measures in place, dictated by the City of Ottawa. Both online and in-person day camps will operate (until further notice), with the following modifications:

    - the number of camps available in the building at one time is reduced - the number of children in each camp is reduced to 10 - participants will be spread out in classrooms for social distancing - staggered camp start and arrival times to reduce crowding and enhance contact tracing - as much time as possible will be spent outside - participants will be provided with face masks and gloves - staff and instructors will wear face masks and gloves - one washroom will be designated per camp to reduce cross contamination - participants will not be allowed to spend lunch hour with participants of others camps - Children living in the same household may not attend different in-person camps on the same week they may only attend the same (please contact us via email before registering your children if you have questions about this requirement - pre-camp phone call with parents and a signed waiver will be required for each student enrolled - parent and child will both have to participate in pre-camp check-in screening, you will not be able to drop-off your child or teen to sign in on their own. - we will not be able to offer before and after care this year

  • Insider Reviews & Perspectives

The Our Kids review of Ottawa School of Art

    our take

The Ottawa School of Art began as a civic association in 1879 intending to help promote the fine arts. One of the first orders of business was to promote the creation of the National Gallery of Canada, which it successfully did. While it doesn’t share the stature of the National Gallery—and, indeed, no arts organization in the country does—the School has been an important part of the life of the city throughout its long life. The spaces and resources are varied, as are the programs on offer, from residencies, to credit courses, to community engagement. The children’s programs seek to inspire interest in the arts, and to appeal to the various curiosities that children have, from how things are created, to the people do who the creating. Sessions range from drawing and printmaking to cartooning, animation, and fashion design. Children who enroll are presented a unique opportunity to take part in the life of a premiere arts institution and to meet the artists who, in turn, give it life. That experience alone can be transformative. Sessions are fun, accessible, and well administered.

    Summer Camps 2019 at OSA

Summer at the Ottawa School of Art is going to be a very busy and exciting term! The OSA offers a full slate of classes at both our ByWard Market and Orleans Campuses.

During the summertime, the focus of our programs in Orleans and downtown will be our summer art camps for children and youth. For younger children these classes offer rich experiences in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture presented through the themes the classes are built around. Classes for older children and youth are more focused on specific media or disciplines such as animation, cartooning and fashion design, to name a few. The programs at both campuses are a great opportunity for children and youth, ages 6 to 15, to take part in an enriching and stimulating visual arts experience.

I encourage you to sign up for a camp or two this summer. It’s a great time of year to renew your creative energies – either in the ByWard Market or in Orleans. Enjoy the term!

    Sincerely,

    Jeff Stellick
    Executive Director
