Children learn fundamental fashion design and sewing skills in courses above. Fashion design classes teach children about fabric, draping, silhouette, texture, and colour theory. These classes also have a drawing element in the curriculum, as children design clothing creations on paper or computer software, before beginning construction.
Sewing is integrated into the fashion design curriculum. However, some programs offer sewing lessons separately. Children learn how to sew by hand and machine. Most fashion design programs are divided by age, allowing younger children to start with basic patterns while older students complete more complex designs. Although female-dominated, these programs welcome boys, too! With the intensive curriculum of fashion design programs, prices start at $600.
Advanced fashion design programs immerse kids in the professional world of couture. Students learn about the history of fashion design in these programs. This is important as historical trends in fashion are often recycled into the modern era. Students gain insight into the origins of certain trends and how it affects modern consumers. Learning about this history influences kids’ design practice as well as their personal clothing style.
Some advanced programs give students exposure to the buzzing fashion industry. Students may participate in final exhibitions or fashion shows, where they show off garments, accessories, and clothing they have created over the course of the class. These events increase students’ chances of gaining recognition from designers and fashion leaders.
Children are immersed into the world of fashion and design in these programs. Here some benefits of enrolling in fashion design classes:
