Camp Overview:

The Pre-Teens Messy Scientists Camp is a thrilling adventure for curious minds aged 10 to 13, combining science exploration with messy, hands-on experiments. This program encourages young scientists to embrace the messiness of discovery while fostering a love for experimentation and scientific inquiry.

Program Highlights:

1. DNA Extraction:

   - Explore the world of genetics by extracting DNA from fruits or vegetables. This experiment provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about the building blocks of life.

2. Chemical Reactions with Elephant Toothpaste:

   - Create a foamy eruption using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and yeast. This experiment demonstrates an exothermic reaction and is visually exciting.

3. DIY Lava Lamp:

   - Investigate the principles of density and polarity by creating a homemade lava lamp. Use oil, water, and a fizzing tablet to mimic the mesmerizing movement of a lava lamp.

4. Dry Ice Bubble:

   - Experiment with the unique properties of dry ice by creating bubbles that produce dense, fog-like smoke. This experiment explores the science behind sublimation.

5. Build a Homemade Electromagnet:

   - Explore the relationship between electricity and magnetism by creating an electromagnet using a nail, wire, and battery. Test its strength by picking up small metal objects.

6. Rocket Launch with Baking Soda and Vinegar:

   - Construct a simple rocket using a film canister, baking soda, and vinegar. This experiment demonstrates the chemical reaction between the two substances, resulting in a fizzy launch.

7. Solar Oven:

   - Harness the power of the sun by building a solar oven. Use it to cook s'mores or melt cheese on nachos, showcasing the concept of solar energy.

8. Electroplating with Copper:

   - Explore the process of electroplating by copper-coating small items. This experiment delves into the principles of electrochemistry.

9. Make Your Own Slime with Borax:

   - Create a non-Newtonian fluid by making slime with borax. This experiment introduces concepts of polymer chemistry and viscosity.

10. Dissecting Owl Pellets:

    - Engage in a biology experiment by dissecting owl pellets. Discover the dietary habits of owls by identifying the bones of small mammals they consume.

Note to Parents:

At times, certain experiments may be replaced if specific materials are not readily available. However, we promise to maintain the same level of fun, excitement, and curiosity in every experiment. Adaptations can be made, and the joy of discovery will remain a constant. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable learning experience for your child, fostering a love for science in a creative and flexible manner.

Thank you for your understanding and enthusiasm for scientific exploration!
