Secondary benefits kids and teens gain from credit courses

Aside from gaining the credit in the course they are pursuing, take a brief look at other things kids and teens learn or gain.:

Self-discipline. Courses are offered by organizations that emphasize high academic standards. Kids must take the work seriously. They also keep their minds sharp away from school.

Self-regulation. Away from their regular school, kids learn to organize their own time. There are courses listed above that are offered online, so kids may learn at their own pace.

Critical thinking. Kids learn how to think on their own. They solve problems, analyze, research, and more. Independent thinking skills will help them deal with future life and career challenges.

Get ahead in high school credits. Credit courses can help kids spread out their learning. If kids have trouble with their course load during the school year taking courses during summer can help. It’s also a great option if they participate in extracurricular sports.

Preparation for university or college. Grade 11 and 12 courses linked to above help prepare kids for university or college.

What to look for in credit courses

Here are some questions to ask credit course teachers and providers, to help you find a class that’s right for you.:

    • Do you offer an online option?
    • How many hours a week do classes run?
    • How much homework is assigned every day?
    • Can the course be taken at an accelerated pace?
    • How many students are enrolled in each class?
    • How does the instructor describe their teaching style?
    • What resources are available or required to augment class instruction?
    • Am I required to have/bring my own laptop?
