Junior Overnight Camp is designed for younger and first-time campers, offering a shorter, gentle introduction to the camp experience. This program invites campers to unplug, explore, and reconnect with nature, themselves, and others in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. Life at Kee-Mo-Kee is simple, active, and relational—focused on building confidence, friendships, and a love of camp from the very first night.

What makes this program special

Junior Overnight Camp blends classic overnight camp traditions with a camper-centered approach designed for younger participants. Campers experience a variety of activities through cabin rotations while gradually learning how our community works together. With an emphasis on connection, exploration, and encouragement, every camper can try new things, make friends, and develop independence at their own pace.

The Fab 5 Activity Areas

All programming is rooted in our Fab 5 activity areas, each led by senior staff who bring expertise and enthusiasm:

  • The Pool – Supervised swim sessions for safe, splash-filled fun.
  • Challenge & Adventure – Beginner-friendly wilderness skills, low ropes, and team challenges to build confidence and a sense of achievement.
  • Arts & Crafts – Hands-on creativity through drawing, collage, bracelet-making, and other playful projects.
  • Sports – Age-appropriate games like Gaga Ball, soccer, basketball, and cooperative challenges to encourage teamwork and fun.
  • Forest & Nature – Introducing campers to the Carolinian forests and Komoka Creek, fostering curiosity, wonder, and comfort outdoors.

What a typical day looks like

Mornings feature cabin rotations with two activity blocks, helping campers try new things together while forming friendships and developing new skills.

Afternoons focus on camper choice:

  • C.Y.O.A. (Choose Your Own Adventure): Campers select from a few activity options each day, ensuring every child finds something exciting and achievable.
  • T.N.T. (Try New Things): Campers select one skill-based session for the week, returning each day to build confidence and enjoy success at their own pace.

Daily All-Camp Games bring everyone together for inclusive, high-energy adventures that create shared memories and strengthen camp community. During free periods, the Quad offers informal games and creative activities like Nine Square, cornhole, or bracelet-making.

Evenings feature age-appropriate programs such as campfires, story nights, cabin activities, or themed events—ending each day with laughter, connection, and a sense of accomplishment.

Themes & takeaways

Each week revolves around imaginative themes—from Once Upon a Camp to The Hero Academy—shaping games, crafts, and stories to capture campers’ imaginations. Junior campers leave with new skills, growing independence, stronger friendships, and confidence in trying new things—all while discovering the magic of camp.

Junior Overnight Camp at Camp Kee-Mo-Kee is where first-time campers feel safe, friendships blossom, and every child experiences the joy of belonging.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Courage: Junior campers face new experiences—like swimming, climbing, or trying unfamiliar activities—in a safe, supportive environment. Each challenge builds confidence, social bravery, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone, fostering courage that extends beyond camp.
  • Curiosity: Campers explore nature, arts, sports, and adventure with hands-on, guided experiences. By asking questions, experimenting, and trying new activities, they develop a love of learning, creative thinking, and excitement for discovering new skills, hobbies, and interests at camp and beyond.
