Three and a Half Week Sessions

Hurontario's three and a half week sessions offer campers the opportunity to immerse themselves in all aspects of camp life as they become part of the wonderfully warm and welcoming Hurontario community. Not only is there time for campers to regularly attend their favourite activities, they can also invest in building their skills to the point of great acheivement. End of session events like Regatta Day or the Camp Olympics encourage campers to showcase their skills whether they be speedy rock climbers or talented artists. Choose to take part in our traditional canoeing, sailing and windsurfing showcases; perform as a band in our rock concert; earn your Bronze lifesaving award; or cheer your friends along in the water polo league. All-camp games, exciting relay races, saturday night campfires, cookouts at our islands, cliff-jumping at our favourite spots, and many more fun events are scheduled around activities to ensure every day is busy and fun-filled from the moment our campers wake up to when they settle down for bed. Unique to Hurontario, three and a half week campers receive canoe lessons from their counsellors on the way to and from activities. As they paddle around our island or out into the archipelago, groups use their canoes almost like bicycles to get to where they want to go, exploring the natural beauty of the area as they paddle. Every camper travels off-island at least once a day. Head out on your mid-session canoe trip with your group, guided by your experienced counsellors. Our graduated canoe tripping program provides a new tripping challenge for each age of camper. 1-2 nights camping in the Massassauga Park; 5-6 nights tripping on the French or Wanapitei Rivers; 10-11 nights exploring Northern Ontario's Chapleau Game Preserve; or take on the challenge of a whitewater wilderness trip as part of our Leadership Training Program. Return from trip with an immense sense of accomplishement, newfound wilderness skills, stronger resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the untouched, natural world. At the end of the 3.5 week session, campers proudly take home their completed art and woodworking projects and a new level swimming or lifesaving badge after having received swim lessons from our qualified instructors. Boasting our strongest return rate, the 3.5 weeks session is our most popular offering. Campers can't wait to return to camp the following summer, having made great new friends, gained much independence, developed their teamwork and leadership skills, achieved a great deal, found new talents in themselves, and learned to celebrate them in others.
