Founded in 1872 and located right on Toronto’s western waterfront, the Argonaut Rowing Club is one of Canada’s oldest and largest rowing clubs, giving Camp Argo kids the chance to learn a new sport at a truly historic venue. With access to a protected stretch of Lake Ontario and a boathouse designed for active, youth-friendly programs, campers spend their days outdoors on the water, building confidence, fitness, and teamwork in a supportive environment. Backed by a strong Junior program and experienced coaches who specialize in introducing young people to rowing, the club offers a safe, structured setting where kids can have fun, make friends, and discover a lifelong connection to being on the water.
Camp Argo Learn to Row is a 5-day camp running from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with an aftercare option till 5:30pm. Camp Argo stands out as a boutique, water-based camp where kids don’t just dabble in activities—they actually learn to row in a real club environment on Lake Ontario, with two on-water sessions built into every camp day (weather permitting). Unlike general-interest day camps, it offers a focused week-long learn-to-row experience for ages 11–16 that combines technical rowing instruction, rowing machine workouts, field games, and indoor activities, so campers build both athletic skills and friendships in a tight-knit group.
Choose the right programs and sessions for your child; Camp Argo currently has 1 program available; 8 TBD.

Camp Argo registration is completed online by selecting one or more preferred camp weeks from the posted session dates and submitting the simple sign-up form on the Argonaut Rowing Club website. Families choose their sessions, provide camper details and payment, and receive a confirmation email once spots are secured; campers do not need to be club members and no prior rowing experience is required. For added convenience, extended after-care is available, giving parents extra flexibility around pick-up times while campers enjoy additional supervised time at the club.
Camp Argo is led by certified camp counsellors who hold up-to-date police background checks, Standard First Aid and CPR, as well as Learn to Row coaching credentials. Campers are closely supervised on the water by staff in a fully equipped motorized coach boat, outfitted with life jackets, a ladder, and all required safety equipment to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience.

My favorite part of camp was learning to scull and row in general. I liked these areas because I enjoyed learning different strokes. Also, I enjoyed sculling because it was fun and more balanced.
I liked working as a team with the other campers and trying out different boats.
I liked learning to row and being a coxswain. Learning rowing techniques and standing in the boat was really fun along with learning to steer.
I really like this camp!
I think that learning was my favourite part about Camp Argo. Specifically, I liked sculling best because there is a smaller group of people and each of us use 2 oars instead of 1. Also, I liked the Thunderbird because it is where you do a power 10 and then when you are glidding, you push your oars down so they are higher in the air like wings.
I liked rowing in the eight the most. It was enjoyable to work in a team as you needed to make sure you were in time with everyone else. I also liked when we did the 'Thunderbird' in the eight. It was really cool!
One of our Counsellors described this story from Camp Argo 2013:
"There was one boy who was quite small for his age and very shy. There was also a group of friends who came to camp together and initially were somewhat rowdy. The shy boy quickly became freinds with the other boys because of the respect he commanded in the boat. Although the friendship was not a very likely match, the group of boys saw that the shy boy was a more experienced rower than they were, and they respected that and learned from it. I thought that was a pretty cool thing to see, especially from teenaged boys who can tend to stick with their own friends."
Another story from the same Counsellor, from 2013:
"There was a girl I remembered who caught onto rowing quite quickly. She did not have a preference for which boat she was in, and always made the best out of who she was rowing with. If there were campers more experienced than her in the boat, she would learn from them. If the other campers in the boat were less experienced than she was, she would help them learn something. This was great to see as a counsellor. "
