Students will come to the University of Toronto – St George campus for a week-long day camp. Throughout the week, students will explore various mathematical topics in a fun, interactive, and hands-on way. Each group has a different focus.
Grade 1/2 Summer Math Camp: Math in the City
Ever wondered how a city like Toronto runs—and how math makes it all possible? In this camp, students step into the role of junior city planners, tackling hands-on math challenges inspired by local landmarks and neighborhood adventures. From planning transit routes and designing city parks to analyzing zoo animal data and solving real-world puzzles, students will apply math in meaningful, practical ways. Along the journey, they’ll build skills in addition and subtraction, data collection, measurement, geometry, and spatial reasoning.
Grade 2/3 Summer Math Camp: Math Mystery - Discovering Math around the World
Put on your detective hat and get ready to crack codes, solve mysteries, and uncover clues using the power of math! This hands-on camp is designed for curious thinkers who love puzzles, logic, and problem-solving. Throughout the week, students will explore a range of math concepts—including number patterns, number sense, geometry, measurement, data collection, and time. As they investigate each case, students will sharpen their critical thinking skills, make connections, and collaborate to solve real-world mysteries—one clue at a time.
Grade 3/4 Summer Math Camp: Math Explorers - Math All Around Us
Get ready for a week of discovery, creativity, and problem-solving! In this dynamic math camp, students will dive into a variety of fun activities and projects that explore the four key areas of mathematics: geometry, algebra, patterns, and logic. Each day focuses on a new topic, combining engaging lessons with hands-on challenges to reinforce core concepts in an exciting and interactive way.
Grade 5/6 Summer Math Camp: Math Lab - Math Tools to Understand Data in the Real World
In today’s data-driven world, knowing how to ask thoughtful questions and interpret information is more important than ever. In this camp, students will take on the role of data analysts as they collect, organize, and interpret data drawn from real-world examples. Students will learn techniques to identify trends, model relationships between variables, and spot potential bias in data. Through hands-on activities and practical examples, students will develop the critical math skills needed to understand and draw accurate conclusions from information presented to them.
Grade 6/7 Summer Math Camp: Math Around the World – Patterns and Techniques
Math is more than numbers — it’s a powerful toolkit for understanding the world! In this camp, students will dive into intriguing concepts like Euler’s Theorem, Pascal’s Triangle, and the Fibonacci sequence. Through hands-on activities and creative problem-solving challenges, they’ll discover how these mathematical ideas connect to patterns, nature, and cultures around the globe. This camp combines exploration and critical thinking to inspire a fresh, exciting perspective on math.
Grade 7/8 Summer Math Camp: Math Navigation - Secret Codes and Maps
In this camp, students will use math to explore and navigate the world around them. From exploring different number systems and map reading to secret codes and ciphers, they'll uncover how math has been used to help us find our way. Along the journey, students will apply skills in geometry, trigonometry, cryptography, and patterning as they tackle challenges and decode clues to uncover the hidden treasure.
Grade 9/10 Summer Math Camp: Mathematics of Games - Cracking Codes and Strategic Thinking
Unlock the hidden connections between secret codes and winning strategies! This camp dives into the mathematics of game theory and cryptography, two fields where logic and clever thinking are key! Students will analyze classic combinatorial games, learn how to crack (and create) ciphers, and discover how strategic reasoning and code-breaking both rely on deep mathematical thinking. On the final day, students will bring it all together by creating original ciphers and two-player games as part of a collaborative team challenge.
