Students will join us virtually over Zoom for a week-long online camp. Throughout the week, students will explore various mathematical topics in a fun and interactive way. Each group has a different focus.
Course Description: In Data Detectives, campers will use number sense, logic, and game‑theory to uncover hidden patterns and solve puzzles. Alongside hands‑on problem‑solving, campers will use Scratch to design interactive simulations, test strategic decisions, and visualize how data behaves. By building and analyzing their own digital models, they will learn how choices, patterns, and probabilities play out. Throughout the program, campers will strengthen their skills in combinatorics, probability, patterning, and data collection.
Course Description: From weather patterns to sports statistics to telescope images and scientific measurements, data helps us describe and understand the world around us. In this program, campers will learn how Python can be used to organize and analyze real-world data efficiently to visualize patterns that may be difficult to see by hand.
Please note that previous coding experience is an asset but is not required for this program.
Course Description: In this program, campers will explore how modern technologies make decisions by building their own “smart systems” inspired by artificial intelligence. Using mathematical thinking, patterns in data, and logical rules, they will learn how computers classify information, make predictions, and improve over time. Through hands-on challenges, campers will design, test, and refine their own decision models. By the end of the week, they will present a system that can analyze inputs and make structured, rule-based decisions.
Course Description: In this program, campers will learn how to use the free, open-source 3D software Blender to create special effects for movies and video games. Using physics, simulation, linear algebra, 3D geometry, and computer graphics, campers will gain a better understanding of the software to create their own digital capstone projects.
Please note that to participate in this program, you will need a computer that meets the minimum requirements for Blender: https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/
Course Description: In this camp, campers will develop their mathematical problem-solving skills through unique math problems. By engaging with math problems they wouldn't regularly encounter in school, campers will develop deeper mathematical reasoning skills to be applied to real-world contexts. Through word problems and puzzles in combinatorics, geometry, logic and algorithms, campers will exercise creative mathematical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
