(5) Overall experience

Blake was very excited to go to camp each day. She’s an outgoing kid, and the energy of the camp really matched her personality. Even though she can sometimes be nervous about team sports since she usually prefers individual activities like climbing and gymnastics, she jumped right in and had a blast. She especially loved spending time with the counselors, who always made her feel included—whether she was on the field playing basketball, soccer, and ball hockey, or off to the side coloring and chatting when she needed a break. After camp, Blake seemed even more confident and open to trying new things. She discovered that she could enjoy team sports and work together with other kids, which was a big step for her. She also talked nonstop about the counselors and how much fun she had, showing how strong and positive those connections were for her. It means so much to see Blake not only have fun but also grow in her confidence and willingness to try activities outside her comfort zone. Knowing that she felt supported and cared for by the counselors gave me peace of mind, and seeing her so happy every day reassured me that she was in the right place. We will definitely send Blake back to True North. Blake had such a positive experience; it was the perfect mix of fun, encouragement, and growth. The counselors made her feel valued and included, and the program gave her a chance to explore both team and individual activities in a supportive environment. I would love for her to continue building those friendships, skills, and confidence at camp again.

(4.5) Reason for choosing the camp

We were originally attracted to this camp because we wanted Blake to develop a love for sports and build her confidence as a girl who enjoys being active. It was important to us to find a place where she could try different activities in a supportive and encouraging environment, and this camp really stood out for that. We chose this camp because of the convenience and accessibility of the multiple locations, as well as the value compared to many other very expensive camps. The flexible options, like before and after care, and the ability to have lunch provided on certain days, made it much easier to fit into our family’s schedule. It felt like the camp was designed with parents’ needs in mind, which gave us a lot of confidence in our choice. Yes, the experience was absolutely worth the investment. Blake had a wonderful time, gained confidence, and developed a genuine enjoyment of new sports. One of the best parts was that there were no hidden costs—the pricing was clear and straightforward, and the optional add-ons, like before/after care or lunch, were very fairly priced and convenient when we needed them.

(5) Program quality and activities

The camp schedule was exactly what we were hoping for. It had a great balance of instruction, practice, and play. It wasn’t just intense drills all day—each session started with a lesson, then practice time, and always finished with fun team games or little competitions. Since Blake was in the multi-sport program, she got to try a different sport every day, which was perfect for her age. At five years old, she’s not ready to spend a whole week focusing on just one sport, so the variety kept her engaged and excited. Blake loved the variety of sports—basketball, soccer, and ball hockey were some of her favorites. The multi-sport approach gave her a chance to explore new activities without pressure, and she really enjoyed the mix of learning and playing. She also loved the small competitions and team games, which gave her a sense of accomplishment and fun at the same time. The organization clearly puts a lot of thought into hiring and training. At this age, kids don’t need former professional athletes as coaches—what matters is the energy, encouragement, and ability to connect with young children. The True North coaches were incredible: high-energy, positive, and many of them were university athletes, so they still brought a strong level of skill. You could tell the programming was carefully designed for each age group, with activities that were engaging and age-appropriate. The structure of lessons, practice, and play showed that the program was both thoughtful and effective.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

Blake still talks about a few campers as being her “best friends” and really misses them now that camp is over. She loved the social side of camp just as much as the sports, and it was wonderful to see her make new connections so quickly. Blake did not experience any bullying herself, but there was one moment when she overheard a boy tell a girl she wasn’t good at sports. The counselors handled it well—they spoke with the boy about being inclusive and what it means to be a good teammate, and they also encouraged the girl to be confident and not let negative comments hold her back. It was reassuring to see that the staff not only step in quickly but also use these situations as teaching moments for everyone involved.

(4.5) Skills and growth

Blake developed a lot of fundamental movement skills like throwing, catching, and jumping, and we’ve noticed she’s becoming more coordinated in all of these areas. The camp gave her a strong foundation in physical literacy while keeping things fun. Beyond the physical skills, she also grew in her confidence around sports and teamwork, which was exactly what we were hoping for. There weren’t many activities that felt overwhelming for her, but since she had very little experience with team sports before, those were definitely new and outside her usual comfort zone. She ended up enjoying them a lot, especially the team games in basketball, soccer, and ball hockey. It was great to see her not only try but also embrace something unfamiliar.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The staff made an incredible first impression. On the very first day, they welcomed every camper as they arrived, and that small gesture immediately set the tone for the week. Even with hundreds of campers, they somehow knew every child’s and parent’s name, which went such a long way in making us feel comfortable and cared for. That level of attention and warmth really stood out. Communication was excellent from start to finish. From our initial inquiry through the registration process, the staff were very responsive and helpful with any questions. We received a detailed welcome letter about a week before camp that covered everything we needed to know. During camp, I really appreciated the mid-week check-in on Wednesday to let us know how Blake was doing. When Blake was hit on the head with a ball, we immediately received a phone call explaining that she was okay and exactly how they handled head injuries—it gave us total confidence in their safety procedures. We didn’t experience any conflicts ourselves, but even with minor questions, the directors and management team always responded quickly and thoroughly. It was clear that they prioritize communication and resolving anything that comes up right away.

(5) Advice and tips

This is a really great sports camp for beginners as well as kids who already love sports. The balance of instruction and play makes it fun and approachable for all skill levels. We noticed that many kids return for multiple weeks, which says a lot about the experience. For families, the convenience of the locations, the option for before/after care, and the flexibility of one-week sessions make it a very practical choice. I would absolutely recommend it, and we’ll be sending both of our kids again. I don’t have any major advice, but I do wish I had known a little more about the Kids Camp option, since it includes some arts and crafts and non-sport activities that could be a great fit for younger children. That said, we were very happy with the Multi-Sport program, and I’ll definitely consider Kids Camp for my youngest when she’s ready.
