A Bug’s Life Camp: Big Discoveries from Little Worlds.

Ages 8-10 & 11-13

Get ready to zoom in on the tiny creatures that make a huge impact on our planet! A Bug’s Life Camp is an easy, fun, hands-on STEM-approved camp designed for curious kids. Set in an informal learning environment, this week-long adventure is packed with discovery, creativity, and real-world science.

Through games, projects, and exciting investigations, youth explore nature, contribute to authentic science research, and design creative strategies to protect the planet. Each camper receives a complete set of STEM supplies to make every project interactive and memorable.

Throughout the week, campers will:
- Explore small creatures with big environmental impacts
- Go on local field expeditions, search for arthropods, and collect specimens
- Post their discoveries to iNaturalist, joining a global citizen-science community
- Use real tools and technology to learn how entomologists study the insect world
- Investigate habitats and learn how these tiny creatures keep ecosystems healthy

*Campers will also adopt a bug that will be set free.

Activity Topics Include: Observe Like a Scientist; Engineer an Arthropod; Tools of the Trade; Arthropod Apartments; Color Your Camouflage; Habitat Health; Pollination Station; Indestructible Web; Map the Habitat…and many more!

And because this camp is jam-packed with fun, campers also enjoy: Bug-themed VR experiences that take them into the micro-world; Arcade time for some extra excitement, including Minecraft and many others; Bug-inspired arts ’n’ crafts to unleash creativity; outdoor activities and friendly sports challenges to stay active; and a field trip to High Park to conduct field studies, including a visit to the playground and zoo - because that's where the Capybaras are!

A Bug’s Life Camp is the perfect mix of education and adventure, helping kids develop curiosity, science skills, and a love for the natural world — all while having a blast.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Curiosity: There are so many different fun things that youth will see & do, they won't even realize it's educational - sparking a love of learning. Physically seeing all of the habitats will encourage enthusiasm for experiencing the world, developing new passions & interests and widen perspectives.
  • Responsibility: There is a real educational aspect to this camp that is masked in total fun, but campers must take responsibility with their parts in group projects, caring for habitats and (especially) when they adopt a real bug that will eventually be freed into the outdoors.
