Program(s) focused in Virtual Reality, Chess, Archaeology/Paleontology
(5) Overall experience
My child attended 3 weeks of camp at Junxion this past summer (Dino, chess, and VR), and he truly loved it! He learned many new things and brought home some keepsakes including pictures of his time there and art. He still looks at them and talks about the fun he had! Would 100% send him again. He was always happy to go each morning. Whenever I picked up, he always asked to stay longer. I will be booking him again for sure!
(5) Reason for choosing the camp
I chose this camp because it offered different activities other than sports. My son likes sports but not all day. It’s a great mix of learning, outdoors, games, and new information. It was conveniently located, not too far from the highway, and easy parking. The VR and weekly outing were a bonus, too.
(5) Program quality and activities
My son was in love with the programming. Bonus was the VR that they had - not something most places offer.
He really enjoyed learning to play chess. The VR was a highlight.
During the Dino camp he really enjoyed playing in the Dino pit - they dug up bones and fossils. The outdoor time was great also, weekly trip was a great bonus to the program.
(5) Social dynamics and experience
We don’t live in the area so I was worried about his interactions, as he didn’t know anyone going. The staff made it very easy for the children to interact! He made new friends. The groups were sometimes small but I didn’t mind that. The teachers were the same for most of the weeks so that helped as well.
(5) Skills and growth
My son had zero experience playing chess. He fully learned the game in the 5 days he attended the camp. He learned the names of all the pieces and their abilities. The Dino camp was great too. He learned new facts and really enjoyed the program. The Dino dig area was a favourite for him. Finding the bones is still topic
Of conversation for him.
(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
The staff were great with the kids. Very calm and understanding. The great thing is they were adults. I didn’t have issues at all. They sent home lots of art and projects so I could see what was going on. My child enjoyed the team. Still talks about it today.
(5) Advice and tips
I think people should check it out. Sometimes looking at the building you wouldn’t think the same was great, but it really is! Has a lot to offer! They also offer before and after care so ask about that when registering. I would suggest they offer a lunch program. They do have a snack bar with drinks and treats and some quick food like pizza and grilled cheese.
