  • Summary

    Camp Tamarack answered our questions

Who are you as an organization?

Camp Tamarack has earned the loyalty of thousands of campers, parents and staff since 1981. Our large private property, surrounding a pristine lake, is the magical setting for the building of skills, confidence, friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. With an incredible array of land, water, arts, special programs and opportunities, there’s something for everyone!

    • Special needs: Not available
    • LGBTQ+ friendly community

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"Camp Tamarack’s program is designed to provide campers aged 6-14 with unforgettable opportunities and expose them to an exciting variety of sports, water, arts and extreme activities and other incredible programs and experiences.

At Tamarack we preach our five foundational pillars of Respect, Confidence, Perseverance, Teamwork and Responsibility. By placing these five pillars at the heart of our camp, we are able to create a culture of respect and inclusion for every camper and staff member. "

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Our team of experienced and professional staff members not only facilitate the development of each camper’s skills, but also create a fun, challenging and supportive environment to build their self-confidence, their individuality and their sense of belonging.

We search only for the best people to take care of our campers, and draw from a diverse pool of candidates around the world. Once at camp, each staff member participates in a week long staff training to ensure that they are ready to give our campers the best summer of their lives. "

What do families need to know about registration?

"We open our registration in early September, and keep it open until cabins are full. If your camper is signed up for a shorter session, there will always be the opportunity for them to extend and stay longer if they are loving camp (we know they will!). Our dedicated administrative team is always available if you have any questions during the registration process.

Every session has a mandatory $1,000.00 deposit, with the rest of the amount due paid out over several installments. If you decide for whatever reason, to cancel your registration, you will receive a full refund minus a nominal cancellation fee. "

The Our Kids review of Camp Tamarack

    our take

There’s a lot to look at when considering a camp, including facilities, staff, activities. Those are the things we perhaps first look at and, while they’re important, there are other things that perhaps say a bit more about what the camp is all about. For Camp Tamarack, one of them is the Tamarack Book of World Records. As the title suggests, it’s an ongoing record of fastests, and furthests, and mosts along with the names of the campers who accomplished them: the longest paper airplane throw (13 feet), the fastest climb up Hawthorn Boulder (5 seconds), most noodles held on a single fork (29). The camp directors would likely shirk at the thought that this is a signature element of the camp, but, really, it says so much. It’s a demonstration of what the camp is all about. Only the hardest heart won’t be charmed by all the records listed. It's also significant of the overall approach, one where fun is taken seriously, just as inclusion is, and living through a set of priorities unlike any other that kids will encounter through the year. The list is significant of all the memories made. No doubt none of the campers will forget the year they set the record for the most consecutive tennis rallies or sandbag jumps. And that’s what camp should be: fun, community, friends and memories. Tamarack has so much to offer, from extensive waterfront, to 1000 acres, to consistent leadership, though it’s those less tangible things that, for most families, is rightly the principle draw, year after year.

    Thank You!

Hi Rick/ Ellen, I just wanted to take a minute and state the obvious, that our camper had a great summer and definitely grew-( in every way possible). For my Husband and I, we LOVE the tradition of Rick and our camper tubing and we look forward to this pic every year!! These are the memories that I know will be ingrained in him. As someone who is largely introverted, it is wonderful for both my Husband and I to know that there are other sides of him that emerge at camp, a place where he can truly be free. Thank you for your part in ensuring that he continues to look forward to his summers at Tamarack with each passing year. I wish you more sunshine than rain for the remainder of the summer! Take care ... Show More

    Thanks Again!

Hi, We just picked up our daughter who reluctantly got off the bus and “allowed” us to drag her home. Lol. We wanted to share our thanks and gratitude to you both and the entire team at Camp Tamarack! Every summer has been excellent but something about this summer for Taylor was special. She had the best summer ever… EVER!!! The staff, including leadership, the activities, the campers, the programs were all incredible. Looking forward to Taylor being part of the team next year as STAFF 2023 Thanks again! ... Show More

    Incredible!

You and your incredible and caring staff have made this summer at Tamarack one that my son will never forget. Tamarack has made such a HUGE difference in his life. I barely recognize the shy boy so intimidated by making new friends. Seeing him at home now so content and secure, we know we made the right decision in choosing Tamarack. I know that he is going to insist that we keep our promise to send him for a full summer next year! ... Show More

    Great Staff

Our daughter loved the counsellors, the activities, the delicious food, the view, the lake, and, in particular the girls in her cabin. Thanks for all the photos and videos you posted, the parent emails, and the personal reassurance that you gave us as new parents. We are just so impressed with everything about Tamarack! ... Special Memories

Tamarack came along and has made a HUGE difference in my son’s life. It introduced him to a world where he could feel “cool” and accepted for who he is. Tamarack can take credit for showing him that even he could feel like a star camper and athlete! He used to have a passing interest in sports and then after last summer at Tamarack, he suddenly became interested in sports and now a whole new world has opened up for him. It has been amazing, as a parent, to witness this change. With his new interest in sports and his already intense passion for music and dance he finally feels comfortable with who he is. You and your staff are amazing and you have all given a young boy some special memories that will help carry him through the school year. ... Show More

    Smiles

Alex got off the bus all smiles and hasn’t stopped talking about camp, the activities, and friends he made. He raved about each and every day, highlighting all the details and singing the Tamarack song. You have given him the experience of a lifetime that he will forever cherish! He’s already talking about next summer! ... Show More

    Best Summer Ever!

Once, I was at Climb and I was scared to climb one of the climbing walls. But then the climbing staff made me feel happy and safe and I felt confident and ended up climbing to the top. And that's how camp made me feel confident ... Show More

    Are meals provided? Yes

Is Camp Tamarack technology free? Yes Camp Tamarack truly believes that camp is intended to foster independence, growth, maturity and so many other attributes, and that maintaining reasonable separation from city life and immersing oneself in the Tamarack camp community is hugely important and beneficial. For campers to achieve these goals, however, is difficult, if not impossible, with the presence of “screens”/phones acting as a link to parents and the city. Tamarack’s consistent policy has stated that “no camper shall bring a cell phone, pager or similar device to camp or any off-site camp excursion” and that ‘hidden cell phones’ are not allowed and detrimental to the camp experience.
