Get ready for a delicious journey with Food Adventure, an immersive Mandarin language camp designed for young food lovers aged 9-12! Through hands-on cooking activities, food-themed games, cultural exploration, and interactive language lessons, campers will develop essential Mandarin vocabulary while discovering the rich culinary traditions of Chinese culture. From shopping in a Chinese supermarket to preparing their own dishes, this camp blends language learning with exciting food adventures!

What to Expect:

  • Let’s Talk About Food: Campers will start their adventure by learning essential food vocabulary like “米饭 (mǐfàn – rice),” “面条 (miàntiáo – noodles),” and “水 (shuǐ – water).” Through fun activities like flashcard games, singing “吃饭歌 (Chīfàn gē – Eating Song),” and food matching games, campers will build their Mandarin language skills while discussing their favorite foods.
  • Shopping for Food: It’s time for a field trip! Campers will explore a Chinese supermarket, learning phrases like “我要… (Wǒ yào… – I want…),” “请 (qǐng – please),” and “多少钱?(Duōshǎo qián? – How much?).” They’ll participate in a scavenger hunt, practice polite phrases with staff, and identify traditional Chinese foods like “饺子 (jiǎozi – dumplings)” and “月饼 (yuèbǐng – mooncakes).”
  • Cooking Tools and Actions: Campers will learn the names of common cooking tools like “筷子 (kuàizi – chopsticks),” “碗 (wǏn – bowl),” and “盘子 (pánzi – plate).” They’ll role-play cooking scenarios, set tables using Mandarin instructions, and participate in fun games like the “Chopstick Relay Race” to practice their skills.
  • Let’s Cook!: It’s time to get hands-on in the kitchen! Campers will learn cooking verbs like “切 (qiē – cut),” “煮 (zhǔ – boil),” and “好吃 (haochī – delicious).” They’ll prepare simple dishes like dumplings or salads, practice describing flavors in Mandarin, and enjoy tasting their culinary creations.
  • Food Festival: Campers will showcase everything they’ve learned in a fun Food Festival! They’ll prepare short presentations about their favorite dishes, practice using Mandarin to describe ingredients and cooking steps, and participate in a cultural tasting experience with traditional foods like mooncakes and tea.
